Looked at CD for the first time in a while and it's like, all the "everything's on fire" memes while a large robotics supplier/company is actively shooting themselves in the kneecaps continuously.
It's almost as bad as Twitter right now
FIRST Robotics: bastion of inclusivity and acceptance, Gracious Professionalism, etc etc etc
Also FIRST Robotics:
Interesting to learn from watching events new referee interpretations of rules, such as contact within frame perimeter only counts if the contact is initiated with an intake/appendage and not, say, driving your robot on top of an opponent
One thing COVID hasn't helped with is the fact that I have to close the chat on FIRST event streams because of all the people in chat critiquing top tier teams about stuff like they could do it better
That said @RoboSportsNet the real MVP on streams and TBH one of the best things to happen to FIRST events in the last 5 years
And three hours later, the post has devolved into personal drama because of some unnecessary posting... #summerCD y'all
Welcome to summer CD, where debating whether a song with potentially (definitely) racist connotations should be banned from playing at events (it should) gets locked because people can't be civil on the internet (shocker) chiefdelphi.com/t/first-its-…

Terrific thread on linguistic gate keeping and the joy and empathy of using common language to be inclusive. Thank you!

I would go skid-steer if it meant we never needed another one of these.
In response to the outpouring of support & desire to help, this fundraising campaign was created in support of @Frc4418 & Kendrick Castillo's family as they mourn & recover as a community. All fundraising proceeds will be distributed to Team 4418 by FIRST. give.firstinspires.org/team-…

Since I'm still ticked off, some more statistics:
So far in 2019 there have been 33 incidents in schools.
Last year was an all time high of 97. The second highest was 2006 where there was 59.
As someone who volunteers with students, these statistics scare me beyond belief.

Some stats: 6 students have been killed since the start of 2019. 56 that were killed in grades K - 12 in 2018. There hasn't been a year where someone didn't die by gun violence since 1970 (maybe before then)
While my thoughts are with @Frc4418, I understand this is not enough.
We're heartbroken by the death of Kendrick Castillo, a victim of the STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting in Littleton, CO. Kendrick was a member of @Frc4418, of which his father is Lead Mentor. Our hearts go out to Kendrick’s family, friends, & all affected by the shooting.
To commemorate the end of the official 2019 FRC Deep Space season, here's a spicy take on the StRaTeGy ThAt'S GoNnA wIn WcMp from one of those self-professed strategy experts (opinion given week 7). 2020 is gonna be fun!
I don't think it's controversial opinion or hot take to say that the FIRST Play X Play is probably the best thing to happen to the stream since the overlay and the not-potato-quality. It can be hard to keep track of 6 streams, and the announcers are phenomenal
Shoutout to Mason, @kkanagas and @tombottiglieri for being some of the best Play by Play hosts a robot nerd could wish for
