Very sad news. I was blessed to have met Pema twice in Tibet, and a couple of times in Paris. He was such a soft spoken, thoughtful, and conscientious person. Losing him and Yangga in one year. Bright lights going out. མི་རྟག་པ། #PemaTseden

Global Buddhist Summit 2023 PM Modi presenting robes to H.H. Thich Tri Quang, H.H. the 43rd Sakya Trizin Rinpoche, and H.H. Drikung Chetsang Rinpoche. There is immense significance in seeing Modi perform this particular ritual. #GlobalBuddhistSummit2023
#DalaiLama other clips including the boy hugging DL at the welcoming, being interviewed at the end. Contrast the hitjob with forcing Tibetan children to attend Chinese govt boarding schools to force Tibetans to lose their language and culture. youtu.be/P38uylAkhHU
Re:#DalaiLama : stop speculating on his mental health. To say he is ”going senile” is replacing one insult with another. He gives many audiences broadcast live. You just don’t watch them. Cognitive scientists go to him for advice on their research. Why not listen to experts?

Regarding the recent @DalaiLama controversy, a thread. Having reviewed @timesofindia, @guardian, @CNN, @nytimesworld, @people there is very poor reporting being lazily copied by many organizations.
Of course there is sexual abuse in Tibetan society, they have written about it, lamas have given interviews on YouTube, anthropologists have published articles. Why not contact one of them before fanning the flames? Some references:
On child abuse and religion: Robert Orsi, for premodern Tibet: Melvyn Goldstein, for contemporary Tibetan society and religion: Kalu Rinpoche, for cultural context and monks: Janet Gyatso, for real problems that need more reporting: @agleig . Need more? Message me.
All of the articles repeat #dalailama’s previous controversy when he said a female Dalai Lama should be “attractive.” Except that “controversy” had similar features to this one: no expert or native sources, actions taken out of context.
Regarding cultural context, the articles do not reference a single Tibetan or expert on their culture who could speak to #dalailama’s personality, why his tongue specifically, or why touch noses.
