In Kendal, England 🏴🇬🇧, a unique throne carved into a tree trunk stands as a fascinating blend of nature and craftsmanship... ...
A throne carved into a tree trunk in Fletcher Park, Kendal, England; created in 2012 by artist Andy Levy. Intricate details represent Parr family, including coat of arms of Sir William Parr, who lived at Kendal Castle in 16th Century AD. Coat of arms of Catherine, who became the 6th and last queen consort of Henry VIII. Faces on throne are copies of stone sculptures of king and queen found in Kendal Parish Church, where remains of William Parr rest in a black marble tomb.
This unusual piece of furniture, created by skillfully shaping a solid tree trunk, evokes a sense of ancient artistry, where the raw beauty of the natural world is combined with human ingenuity. The tree trunk throne is not only a testament to the craftsmanship of the carver but also reflects a deep connection between the people of Kendal and the surrounding natural landscape.
The throne itself is a striking piece, with the rough texture of the wood contrasting with the smoothness of its carved seat and armrests. The intricate details of the carving bring out the natural grain of the wood, emphasizing the organic flow of the material. It suggests a time when furniture was designed with a reverence for nature, and the use of local resources was central to the creation of everyday objects. The throne may have once had ceremonial or symbolic importance, adding another layer of historical intrigue to its existence.
Today, the throne carved from a tree trunk serves as a reminder of the region's deep-rooted connection to its environment and traditions. It stands as both a work of art and a functional object, showcasing how ancient craftsman integrated their surroundings into their creations. Whether viewed as a relic from a bygone era or a modern piece of cultural heritage, the throne in Kendal remains a powerful symbol of the intersection between nature, history, and human creativity.

A rare multidrug resistant bacterium has prompted officials in Cheyenne Wyoming to prohibit wastewater discharges from a data center project. The city traced the organism known as Cupriavidus gilardii to discharges from Goat Systems LLC an affiliate of the Meta data center campus.
Laboratory testing at the municipal wastewater facilities first identified the unusual bacterium in February. Further investigation confirmed the source as an industrial user linked to the sewer system. As a result the company immediately lost permission to discharge wastewater into the city system.
Cupriavidus gilardii occurs naturally in soil and groundwater but appears infrequently in municipal wastewater systems. While human infections remain extremely rare the bacterium can cause serious illness especially among immunocompromised individuals and older adults. No illnesses have been connected to this event.
The bacterium colonized the biological treatment processes at both city wastewater plants. This development required a temporary closure of the reclaimed water irrigation network. Over the next two months crews drained and disinfected the reuse water system along with Prairie View Pond. Affected irrigation setups were switched to potable water sources as a safety measure.
City officials report that only trace amounts of the bacterium now remain. Reclaimed water services resumed on June 29 following guidance from public health experts. Meta indicated that its construction contractor halted all industrial wastewater discharges upon notification and arranged for offsite hauling instead. The city confirmed that drinking water supplies were never impacted.

The Mississippi River and its tributaries drain nearly half of the lower 48 states.
The blue lines on this map show the Mississippi River watershed, one of the largest drainage systems on Earth. Every stream, creek, and river within this basin eventually flows into the Mississippi before reaching the Gulf of Mexico. Gravity pulls water downhill, and much of central North America lies within a vast natural drainage basin bordered by higher terrain, including the Rocky Mountains to the west and the Appalachian Mountains to the east.
Over millions of years, erosion carved an enormous network of tributaries that converge into the Mississippi, creating the most direct route to sea level. Covering about 1.2 million square miles (3.2 million km²), the watershed drains roughly 41% of the contiguous United States, including parts of 31 states and two Canadian provinces.
For thousands of years, this river system has been essential to Indigenous peoples, transportation, trade, agriculture, and commerce, playing a central role in shaping the history and economy of North America.

If we fined insurers and providers $100 every time they over-billed, incorrectly denied care or misrepresented any amount of patient out of pocket, we could pay of the national debt
They play on the fear and information asymmetry that exists in healthcare
Break them up. Make them divest non insurance companies. And when we are done with the insurance companies , we go to the hospitals and then to the pharma wholesalers. Break em up. Make the markets efficient again.
