I started tracking one life because I wanted better answers.
The data taught me something bigger
memory edits, stories harden, and intuition can feel certain while being wrong.
So I built a public archive that gives reality a way to disagree with me.
github.com/CDHughett/daniel-…
I stopped most of a supplement stack Id been taking for months
Then sleep and resting heart rate both looked better
Its a tempting story but weak evidence
I changed more than one thing, had no clean control, and the window is short.
For now, interesting timing, unknown cause
Memory is strange about what it keeps.
Not the whole trip. The gas station on the way there.
Not the celebration. Someone laughing in the kitchen afterward.
Not the year. One ordinary Tuesday.
The things that stay often felt completely normal while they were happening.
A surprising amount of a good life is maintenance.
Calling the person back.
Replacing the thing before it breaks.
Cleaning up the small mess.
Having the conversation before resentment gets interesting.
A lot of what lasts isnt built once.
Its quietly kept.
The internet makes it easy to confuse being seen with being known.
A hundred people can know your opinions and still have no idea what youre like when the dog throws up at 2am or the car wont start.
Visibility and intimacy arent the same thing.
One value in my archive still doesnt reconcile with the source trail.
Resting heart rate: 64 bpm. September 8th
I could invent a reasonable explanation and move on. I havent.
Its still marked unresolved
Sometimes the most honest thing a dataset can contain is a question mark
One underrated kind of friendship is being able to bring good news without shrinking it.
You tell them it worked. The trip is booked. You got the opportunity.
They dont search for the downside or make you explain why you deserve it.
They just let you be happy for a minute.
A weird amount of peace comes from not investigating every change in tone.
Sometimes nobody is upset. Theyre tired. Distracted. Thinking about something else.
You can let a moment stay small without turning it into a story.
One thing AI changed for me is theres almost no social cost to asking the fifth question.
You can go past the polite stopping point. Ask the dumb version. Rephrase it. Chase the side road.
A lot of curiosity used to die from embarrassment before it ran out of questions.
Before my August testing, I wrote down a prediction, the snapshot would show improvement.
It didnt.
Some results improved. Others didnt. Together, they missed the bar I set beforehand.
The hard part was leaving the original prediction intact once better explanations appeared.
You can tell a lot about someone by what happens after a tiny mistake.
Wrong turn. Spilled drink. Forgotten name. Missed exit.
Some people make the room tighter.
Others barely let it become a thing.
A lot of ease is just knowing you can be briefly human around someone.
We optimize away slack because slack looks wasteful when nothing is wrong.
An empty hour. Cash sitting still. Food in the freezer. An unscheduled day.
Then life moves sideways and what looked wasteful becomes what keeps your life calm.
Not everything unused is unnecessary.
Ive started asking another question when I cant know what happens next.
Not, how do I become certain?
How do I make being wrong less expensive?
Smaller bets. More margin. A way back. Room to pivot if reality disagrees.
You need less certainty when you can absorb being wrong.
A lot of kindness is logistical.
The person who saves you a seat. Sends the address before you ask. Brings you water too. Notices your hands are full and takes a bag.
Care isnt always a deep conversation.
Sometimes its just someone quietly making your day easier.
Your life is shaped by what you keep returning to when nobody is asking.
The book on the nightstand. The person you call. The walk you keep taking. The question you cant leave alone.
A lot of who you become is hidden inside what keeps getting your attention.
Ive become suspicious of explanations that only appear after the result.
Almost anything can sound obvious once you know how it ended.
What did you expect beforehand? What would have changed your mind?
Reality is easier to learn from when the story cant move after the fact.
A lot of people dont need advice as quickly as we give it.
Sometimes theyre still trying to hear what they think.
You ask one good question. Let the silence sit. They keep talking.
Half the time, the answer arrives before you ever have to offer one.
Not every uncomfortable feeling is a warning.
Sometimes its the new job. The awkward conversation. The workout you havent adapted to yet. Being bad at something in public.
Some discomfort is information.
Some is just what unfamiliar feels like.
Most decisions feel heavier than they are because we treat them like they have to be permanent
Try the class. Change the routine. Send the draft. Take the different route.
Some choices are doors, not walls
You dont need certainty for every door you can still walk back through
