A catastrophic wildfire that ravaged Mongolia's pristine grasslands was allegedly triggered by a group of Japanese suspected of illegal fishing. The blaze erupted on Oct. 8 when a vehicle in the convoy of Japanese executives from telecom giant Mobicom caught fire, burning vast stretches of steppe habitat. Local media reported the group was targeting the endangered Siberian taimen. The disaster has sparked fierce public outrage over how the convoy illegally accessed the strictly off-limits zone. While Mobicom's CEO has issued a public apology, Mongolian Deputy Prime Minister Nyamtaishir Nomtoibayar said an "empty apology" is not enough, demanding full compensation once legal responsibility is established. #WorldNews
