“We should be especially concerned when young people begin to see gambling not as a form of entertainment with financial risks, but as a reliable way to make money.”
In a new op-ed, @josephspicozzi, co-leader of Pennsylvania’s Problem Gambling Caucus, outlines potential reforms to make online gambling safer and more transparent for consumers.

Sen. Danny Britt helped advance Iryna’s Law. His warning in @WRAL report deserves attention: stronger requirements alone cannot fix the gaps in North Carolina’s criminal justice and mental health systems.
Courts, law enforcement, and treatment providers need the resources to carry out the responsibilities lawmakers give them. Otherwise, counties and taxpayers are left managing the consequences—and communities remain at risk.
Fiscal responsibility means investing wisely, measuring results, and holding government accountable for delivering safer communities. We hope our leaders will remain committed to finding solutions that keep all North Carolinians safe.

1/2 Clint Bolick is a justice on the Arizona Supreme Court, former vice president for litigation at the @GoldwaterInst, and co-founder and former vice president for litigation of @IJ. On November 16, Bolick will be the keynote speaker at #FreeCon Phoenix, hosted by Goldwater, the @1912Institute, and other partners.
In a broadcast interview discussing the public reaction to Charlie Kirk’s murder, he bemoaned the use of government power to punish or discourage freedom of speech. “I think Charlie Kirk himself had said it best: There is no such thing as legal hate speech that can be regulated or curtailed,” Bolick said. “It is speech, and all speech is protected.”
When the FCC subsequently threatened the broadcast licenses of ABC stations after Jimmy Kimmel’s comments about Kirk, it exceeded its legal role, he explained. “The moment that the government puts its fingers on the scale and coerces speech, that is clearly improper.”
One of most critical protections of the First Amendment is the U.S. government’s separation of powers, especially the exertion of authority between the legislative and executive branches, he argued. “We either have universal free speech rights that apply to all of us, or we do not have free speech rights at all.” #FreeCon

When you're on the road this Halloween, slow down and watch for children walking along streets, crossing roads and entering or leaving driveways. Trick-or-treaters can be hard to see after dark, so stay alert and avoid distractions. Let's keep Halloween fun and safe for everyone!

ALT A street sign shows a cartoon ghost on a crosswalk, indicating a warning for trick-or-treaters. Below, the text reads: "Little monsters may be crossing! Slow down. Stay alert. Watch for trick-or-treaters." In the background, there are blurred houses and people. The logo "DPS" for North Carolina Department of Public Safety is visible.

Described as among the first public political acts by women in America, the Edenton Tea Party, which occurred on this date Oct. 25, 1774, was one of North Carolina’s most important pre-Revolutionary protests. 51 women signed a resolution pledging to boycott British tea and cloth in opposition to British taxation and trade policies.
In March of 1775, a satirical print titled "A Society of Patriotic Ladies, at Edenton in North Carolina" was published in London (seen here). The artist portrayed the women in an unflattering and scandalous manner, essentially ridiculing the provocative idea of colonial women involving themselves in politics. The original print survives in the Library of Congress. #Celebrate250

States are boosting high school graduation rates by lowering the standards required to earn a diploma, with serious unintended consequences. Credentials only have value if they signify real knowledge and skills.
