I'm really thrilled to have a feature published today by @guardianstage! It's on my experience of watching an audio described play at @CurveLeicester and how it helped me enjoy theatre as a visually impaired person.

Each time I watch a performance at @NewVicTheatre, I’m curious about how being a theatre-in-the-round influences everything from acting to costumes. I loved speaking to @theresaheskins & other directors & actors about the magic of this kind of theatre. theguardian.com/stage/2025/j…
As an honorary Stokie, I loved writing this feature about Stoke-on-Trent for the Guardian, highlighting some of the places that make the city so special. And I can’t wait to see how the city celebrates its centenary year. theguardian.com/travel/2025/…
I'm so looking forward to running this online course in the new year with @writingwestmids on all things freelance feature writing. There are a few spaces left, and you don't need to live in the West Midlands to take part! More info & booking at: shorturl.at/9FRQo

Nine #literary houses to visit in the UK featured by @countrylivinguk from @CButterwick includes @JaneAustenHouse @VisitHampshire … just in time to celebrate the author’s 250th birthday in 2025: bit.ly/3ZzeCLQ
Mince pie, coffee and writing session this afternoon. It’s a hectic time so it was nice to carve out a bit of time for myself - and I’m starting to feel Christmassy!
Although I'm planning to stay here too, I've joined the other place. So far, it seems nice over there! I'm @ CarolineButterwick - please do give a follow if you're there too.
Interested in becoming a freelance feature writer? I'm running an online course in the new year with @writingwestmids, sharing everything from coming up with article ideas to writing pitches & crafting compelling features. Find out more & book 👇

It was great to work with @CButterwick and @Stopgapdance on this one! Take a read of Caroline's piece below ⬇️
I’d wondered whether, being visually impaired, I’d enjoy watching dance. Experiencing @Stopgapdance’s show Lived Fiction - with integrated access key to every element - was a revelation. Here’s the piece I wrote about my window into dance: theguardian.com/stage/2024/n…
Merlin - a former stray cat who we adopted earlier this year - was spooked by the fireworks, but we put on @ClassicFM’s #petclassics and he’s now snoozing away.

Nothing like writing a time sensitive article that’s due in just over an hour to then have your cat walk across the keyboard and delete the paragraph you just spent the last ten minutes getting right. Here is a photo of the guilty boy, who still gets a fuss despite his antics.
As a visually impaired person, travelling without anyone I know used to feel out of reach. So I loved going on a @traveleyesltd trip - where VI & sighted people travel together. I wrote about it for the Guardian: theguardian.com/travel/2024/…
This is a great volunteer opportunity for writers in the West Midlands who want to gain experience of supporting writing workshops for young people, and includes roles in Stoke and Newcastle-under-Lyme 👇
We are looking for Assistant Writers based in Staffordshire, Coventry, Wolverhampton and Worcester to support the running of our monthly Spark Young Writers groups. Please keep in mind, this is a volunteer role.

Starting the day writing in a coffee shop, all cosy in the warmth with a view of the autumnal street. Who else finds this a perfect setup for writing?
Out celebrating submitting my PhD thesis today! It’s been an intense four years of research & writing around disability memoir. At times I wasn’t sure I’d get this far (googled “should I quit my PhD” at least once), but also really enjoyed it. Now to wait for the viva…
