It's time for @cbuscitycouncil to make the community crisis response program a top priority, starting with the creation of the Advisory Board.
Issue 5 was overwhelmingly approved by voters in the May 2026 election. Time is of the essence to begin implementation.

Issue 5 will improve outcomes for people experiencing a behavioral health crisis by providing the appropriate community care response. Police should not be asked to be social workers or counselors; not every situation requires a badge and a gun.

Columbus voters will consider Issue 5 on the May ballot, focused on creating a long-term approach to alternative crisis response. The measure would support clinician-led teams for certain nonviolent mental health calls and make them an ongoing part of the city’s response.

This keeps us moving forward. The [ballot measure] keeps us all honest and ensures that alternative crisis response is not something that you add in and out of a budget because it is something that is expected from the residents, codified by a vote of the people.
