Southern Whites are the backbone of the Republican Party - and you need to understand a few things about that demographic.
They lost the Civil War, and they also lost the Civil Rights Struggle - but those two major losses did not eliminate their appetite for racist dog whistles (or is it bullhorns?).
When Trump referred to "Haitians eating cats and dogs" - he was addressing that demographic. When Charlie Kirk "questioned the qualifications of Black female pilots and doctors" - he was addressing that demographic.
Lee Atwater wrote a confession on how he deployed racist dog whistles as part of Nixon's Southern Strategy - to get them to join the Republican Party.
They have always been "Christian" and "Evangelical" - they were both when they fought in defense of Slavery, when the South Baptist Congregation split from the wider group, because Southern Baptists were in support of Slavery.
They were "Christian" and "Evangelical" - when they opposed Civil Rights, and dismissed Martin Luther King as a "Communist". One reason why African American Christians in general, do not trust them.
If you just come straight from Nigeria; you might not understand this wider context - what exactly is at play. Many of our people do not take time to understand the historical context. Things are not as black and white as they appear;
Understand this, before you start running your mouth.
Owning Up to Leadership Failures and Political Responsibility
This morning, I listened to the British Prime Minister’s speech announcing his planned resignation in July. As a keen observer of global politics, my primary interest lies in examining what successful nations do right and the structural factors that cause others to lag or struggle with governance and development.
The Prime Minister’s planned resignation comes amid mounting public frustration over a stagnant economy, a worsening cost-of-living crisis, and a perceived failure to honour key campaign pledges.
Looking inward in our dear country, we can recall our own situation. Before 2015, our President on several occasions championed the call for the then President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over economic hardship and insecurity affecting Nigerians. During the Chibok school kidnapping incident, he demanded the immediate resignation of President Jonathan, arguing that the government had failed in its most fundamental duty of protecting lives.
During the 2023 election campaign, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made several promises, including improved electricity supply. He also challenged the electorate not to vote for him for a second term if he failed to deliver on those commitments—particularly in providing stable power, fighting corruption, and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
At present, however, these conditions have worsened. Electricity supply remains unreliable, insecurity has intensified in many areas, including kidnappings, and economic hardship has deepened rather than eased. Similar concerns are reflected across other critical sectors such as security, infrastructure, transportation, and anti-corruption efforts, all of which have regressed. We are in the worst possible condition.
I, therefore, join Nigerians of goodwill in calling for the resignation of the President over monumental failure in governance. Such a gesture would help enthrone a political culture rooted in accountability and responsibility, rather than further entrenching impunity. It would also send a powerful message that public office is a sacred trust, not an entitlement, and help build a society in which future leaders understand that failure carries consequences. Only by ending the culture of impunity can we secure a better future for the society our children will inherit in a New Nigeria that is possible. -PO
Same thing happened to me in Swiss but this time, it was my laptop bag with my cards and gadget.
Thankful to the bus driver who returned it.

Two observations from a cardiologist who has always believed in the physical exam:
1. Residents and fellows will sometimes look at you as if you’re doing a party trick.
2. Even when I do a focused, cursory exam of a patient, patients tell me that it is the most thorough physical examination that they have had in years.
Ways to reinvigorate the physical exam in medicine
Step 1. Do the exam. No "WNL"—we never looked

Good policy, it aims to boost domestic production, preserve foreign exchange,& enhance energy security by protecting local refineries from low-cost imports. However, it may increase landing costs and contribute to inflation. Long-term benefits depend on effective local refining.

Inter vs Barcelona. Champions League semifinal🔥
Tonight, it ended 3–3 😱
But if you think this was mad…
You should’ve seen what happened 15 years ago.
Before Yamal and Dumfries
Because in 2010, this fixture wasn’t just a match — it was war.

This (Elechi Amadi's The concubine) is the first and only book that made me shed a tear. Frank McCourt's Angela Ashes, couldn't evoke such emotion.

A lot of people who have responded to this tweet have said they are 30 without any meaningful achievement in their life.
Let me put it in perspective for you: many of them were 22 years old when Buhari came into power.
Just bear that in mind.
