When the Morrison Govt left office, they were employing 50,000 ppl through consultancies & labour hire & cost $20bn for a single year.
Gutting the public service will not save $$ & it will hurt our vets, age pensioners & new parents needing access to PPL.

Neat piece from Jenn Lacy-Nichols about the problems with political donations in Australia, and how the system undermines #publichealth.

When it comes to political donations from alcohol and gambling companies, the Australian public is often in the dark, research shows, despite recent reforms. @JLacyNichols @unimelb theconversation.com/alcohol-…

Dear @abcnews,
I am sick to death of you platforming Dutton with zero critique, correction or depth of analysis. "Peter Dutton says ..." is NOT journalism. Do better. 😠 #auspol #JournalismMatters

We have found many 'voices of' groups and new ones keep appearing. Our survey about their candidate selection process is now open and live for continuous feedback. Provide your input at the Scorecard link on our website.

We’re making sure that the Independent movement represents as much of the community as possible. Do you know how your ‘Voices of’ group selected their candidates? Was there an EOI? Or did it come out of closed networks? Here’s to doing democracy differently.
Follow us to see how your local Independent was endorsed by their community…🔗

Did you know that in the last Australian federal election only 6% of MPs faced a preselection contest? Compare that to the US election where roughly 55 million Americans participate in political candidate primaries.
We know that Australian major party membership participation is at an all-time low with many candidate selection processes made by kingmaker or captains call models—but what about community Independents?
That’s what the Indie Democracy Scorecard is all about: how different Voices and Independent groups around the country have been, or plan to preselect their candidates ahead of the federal election. It starts with a survey which our team of researchers have delivered to 100+ Independent MPs, Senators, and Voices For groups. Results will be published in a digital scorecard later this month.
The upcoming election presents an opportunity for Voices movements willing to experiment and select their candidate with a democratic contest. You can see the survey questions at progressiveactionlab.com.au/…

Gov action is not proportionate to the absolute devastation we are seeing in Gaza.
We need a more consistent approach to how we respond to crises around the 🌏
We can’t end these conflicts but we can respond and play our part in the international community.

I have no confidence the govt’s electoral reform will include strong truth in political advertising laws or that they’ll put protections against AI deepfakes in place before the election.
Hugely irresponsible & potentially very damaging to our democracy.

ALT Single panel editorial cartoon titled Watchdog on Duty. Beach scene with NACC ‘watchdog’ up in life saver box with no view of the water. Watchdog is relaxing reading a book and drinking bubbly. On the beach AG Dreyfus is walking away with a long ladder, the only access to the box. In the water can be seen a couple of people calling for help, one holding a sign that says trust. There is also a couple of shark fins lurking.

When the National Anti-Corruption Commission was set up the major parties teamed up to make it harder for hearings to occur in public
I just moved an amendment to make it easier to hold public hearings and build confidence in the NACC
Labor & Coalition voted against it again 🤯
