New @AJPCardio study led by @Sadeer_AlKindi and @ChenKai_yale linked over 42,000 MI cases to short-term temperature changes. The findings reveal a U-shaped risk pattern: both colder and moderately warm days increase MI risk As temperatures dipped lower or climbed higher, the risk began to rise again. Interestingly, the elevated risk wasn’t limited to extreme cold. Surprisingly, extreme heat showed no significant signal, likely due to behavioral or infrastructure adaptation. This study reinforces a critical message: cardiovascular risk is shaped not only by biology, but also by environment and deserves more attention. For @ASPCardio and the broader scientific community, I think we need to think more deeply about this domain. Environmental exposures (temperature, pollution, the built environment etc) remain under-integrated into risk models, clinical care, and prevention strategy. As climate variability accelerates, we have a responsibility to build the evidence base, develop tools, and guide systems to anticipate and respond. In 2026 exposome cannot be a fringe topic.
