There was a time not long ago when a college football loss in late October could eliminate a team from winning the national title. Those games were operatic, unlike anything else in all of sports. A 24-team playoff will be different from that, I imagine.

Highest possible praise to @BFQuinn for the telling and @D_Bo20 for the sharing. Best of all the Duncan/Eli stories.
“Eli, God love him, would listen to him.” Behind Duncan Robinson’s unlikely ascent to the NBA was a hidden second life — a decade spent as a quiet lifeline to his struggling brother. nyti.ms/4rxzKi4

I worked at Sports Illustrated for 25 years (94-'19) and never felt prouder than when we shelved the idea to not publish following 9/11 and instead put out this magazine. My contribution, among many tone-perfect pieces: vault.si.com/vault/2001/09/2…

Re-read @ByTimLayden today and consider the circumstances/mag era. Truly amazing. (New link here, cuz SI Vault is ☠️ si.com/nfl/2015/09/15/si-vau…)

The hand-wringing over Super Shoes-driven performances in running and track is real, but it's not really about integrity, it's about legacies. Don't worry: Sports evolve in countless ways. Legacies always survive. For @NBCSports nbcsports.com/olympics/news/…

Duncan Robinson’s love of basketball started with his big brother, Eli. But when Eli got older, he began to struggle. It takes incredible strength to share a story like this. Thank you, Duncan, for your vulnerability. Well done @mcten. I know this hit close to home.

It's @KentuckyDerby week, so I wrote about a horse. But not a Derby horse. A horse that chilled me out, and then almost knocked me out. And educated me. After all, the Derby is about horses. For @NBCSports nbcsports.com/horse-racing/n…

Fabulous piece from Ian. In his 2nd graf, he shouts out me and Wayne Coffey from '92. I told Ian this a.m. that I agree Mullins shot was better, but Grant Hill's pass in '92 adds improbable artistry that complicates the argument.
I've seen a lot from courtside over the years - including Duke-Kentucky, 1992 - but not sure I've ever seen something quite like UConn-Duke in DC. UConn’s Braylon Mullins creates a magical March Madness memory that will last forever nytimes.com/athletic/7157051…

What a sad day. John Shirreffs was a beacon of kindness, dignity and good humor -- backside or front side. Godspeed. You were a joy to be around, every single time. 📷@JayHovdey

Mikaela Shiffrin, by far the best slalom skier in history, was 15th of 18 skiers who completed the course in the alpine combined. Befuddling. Shiffrin/Breezy Johnson 4th, .06 behind Wiles/Moltzan (USA) for bronze.
