Autumn has arrived in Athens, and the 2026 ACCG Legislative Leadership Conference is underway at the Classic Center. County officials from across Georgia are here to discuss the legislative and policy issues that will shape the year ahead. The conference provides an opportunity to hear updates on emerging issues, exchange ideas with fellow local government leaders, and help establish @GACounty legislative priorities in preparation for the upcoming session of the Georgia General Assembly. It’s always a valuable opportunity to learn, connect, and make sure Georgia’s counties have a strong voice at the Capitol. Over the last 40 years I’ve worked for 26 County Commissioners, 7 County Managers (and been one of them) and have held a total of 10 different job classifications since beginning with Butts County as an EMT. I’m grateful for all the opportunities to serve and be a part of my home community and to all the people who helped and mentored me along the way. Most of all I appreciate my family for supporting me in everything I do. Thank you to the board for this recognition.

Now attending the @GACounty Public Safety & Courts Policy Committee meeting, with our own Commissioner Russ Crumbley serving as Vice Chair. There are many items being considered today, including digital driver’s licenses, NextGen 911, qualifications for Sheriff and more. #ACCG

Imagine that it is a warm afternoon in 1898 as people in downtown Jackson come to see their brand new courthouse dedicated. This one was made from an original black and white photograph, restored and brought to life with technology. It gives a brief look at what the square looked like at the turn of the 20th century, as seen from where the Bank of America building is today. #ButtsCounty

The local election returned incumbent Keith Douglas to the Board of Commissioners for another four term that will run from 2028-2032. Laura English also won reelection to the Board of Education and newcomer Arnita Watson joins her. Others running were unopposed. Natalie Fears Sundeen was defeated in her bid for Towaliga Circuit Judge by District Attorney Jonathan Adams. There were uploading issues last night that caused long delays but overall the Elections Office staff handled the entire daylong elections process professionally and expertly. The last voter to arrive before the 7:00 PM line closure has completed voting at #ButtsCounty. Voters are awaiting results from local Commission races, one Superior Court Judge's race and of course the primaries for Congressman @RepMikeCollins and Lt. Governor @BurtJonesGa #GaPol #GeorgiaElections

There are currently four Board of Elections seats (nonpartisan) and two on the Board of Commissioners (partisan). District 3 Commission seat incumbent Joe Brown (R) is unopposed; District 4 incumbent Keith Douglas is opposed by Clifford Marshal in the Democratic primary with no Republican opposition. #GaPol #GeorgiaElections

Polls have closed at 7:00 PM in @ButtsCountyGa but the line was still long at closing time. All those in line are finishing their voting now. A total of 1825 voted in person today at the Election's Office.

Today community leaders, elected officials and private citizens are at work on the 5-year 2027 Comprehensive Plan, focusing on areas such as strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT), economic development and community demographics. The input from this group and later, public input sessions will guide and shape the plan that will help chart the course for our community into the 2030’s. #ButtsCounty

Saying goodbye to Chief Superior Court Judge Tommy Wilson at his last annual Towaliga Judicial Circuit budget meeting tonight. Judge Wilson is the longest serving judge since the Towaliga Circuit was formed and will end his term in December. Thank you for your service!
