That decision helped set him on a path toward a career in education.⁣⁣ ⁣ One of Haines’ most memorable experiences at Butler came in American History with Ed Walborn, who brought Teddy Roosevelt’s famous call to “Charge” to life by stepping onto a desk and leaping forward.⁣⁣ ⁣ Haines went on to spend 41 years teaching, along with additional classes throughout his career. A behind-the-scenes look at a pretty special piece of Butler history! 🎶 Composer Grace Baugher-Dunlap joined our musicians at rehearsal today to fine-tune “Centennial Pulse,” an original piece she was commissioned to write in honor of Butler’s 100th anniversary. How cool is it that our culinary students get opportunities like this? 👀🍽️⁠ ⁠ Six students from the Redler Institute of Culinary Arts recently got to serve as judges for a Chopped-style cooking competition featuring chefs from Legend Senior Living, putting their culinary knowledge to work as they evaluated cooking skills, plate presentation, use of the secret ingredient and taste.⁠ ⁠ They handled the whole experience like pros, and even better, got a firsthand look at another career path they could pursue in the culinary industry. Nursing instructor Janice Jones also left a lasting impact, teaching Turner that nursing is about more than patient care — it’s about professionalism, growth and sharing knowledge with others.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Today, Turner serves as Chief Nursing Officer at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital while pursuing her Doctorate of Education. Things got a little competitive in the kitchen this week. 👀🍽️ The Redler Institute of Culinary Arts hosted chefs from Legend Senior Living for a day of learning and collaboration focused on how they can better serve their senior residents, ending with a Chopped-style cooking competition. The chefs joined us from Legend Senior Living operations across Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Colorado. Six of our students judged the competition from start to finish, scoring the chefs on: 🍽️ Cooking skills 🎨 Plate presentation 🥕 Use of the secret ingredient 😋 Taste It was a pretty cool opportunity for our students to see just how many paths are out there in the culinary industry. 🍽️

Next Tuesday, Butler Life Enrichment will feature two presentations covering local history and music. The Headliners got to learn from a pro today! ✨ Madison Embrey, a trained Fosse dancer and performer with experience ranging from the Marvel show to multiple dance cruise ship contracts, joined us for a special afternoon with our music theatre students. The Headliners performed their “Dancing Through the Decades” set for Madison, followed by a critique, master class and Q&A. Madison is currently performing with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. So much talent and real-world experience packed into one afternoon! 💜

𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬. 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬. 💜⁣ ⁣ 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐡𝐫 | 𝐒𝐕𝐏, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤 | 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎⁣⁣ ⁣ Small class sizes, scholarships and a strong sense of community brought Christian Lehr to Butler. The experience gave him a solid foundation as he prepared to continue his education and career.⁣⁣ ⁣ At the time, Butler’s Fire Science program was new, and Lehr says the experience kept him engaged, even though his career eventually took a different direction.⁣⁣ ⁣ After graduating from Butler, Lehr continued his education and began a career in banking in 2001.
