I became an (half) Ironman 6 months ago I drowned in the pool On Day 1 my coach laughed at me, it was embarrassing, I couldn’t swim more than a few meters 6 months later I completed (half) Ironman in 5 hours 57 minutes Sub 6 hours is an incredible achievement for any first timer Coach was furious, he knows I could’ve done 5 hours 30 minutes Back to the lab and maybe next time we qualify for World Championship

I never give product feedback to products I use But I always expect them to figure out what I don’t like And when they don’t, their Product team’s incompetence frustrates me so much For example, I (and many others) always skip @WHOOP journal. And they still haven’t figured out how to fix it @perk_global used for teams to book flights for offsite still don’t allow Executive Assistants to book on behalf of people All these analytics available, just have to ask AI what sucks about the product and go fix it I’m expecting my work ethic to show up in other people’s projects. And watching screen recordings and app usage is the #1 thing in my books

PSA: in light of recent cyberattacks and vulnerabilities, I recommend everyone: * use a good password manager (1Password) and do not duplicate passwords * use two factor auth for everything important (not via sms!! Google Authenticator or better yet YubiKey) * Auto-updates on, and restart weekly so they actually install * Freeze your credit * Get an IRS Identity Protection PIN * Get your cell carrier to give you a port-out PIN or number lock that makes the carrier refuse to move your number without the PIN You can ask your claude code to audit what on your laptop is out of date and needs updating.

It’s November 19 and you’re driving around listening to ’80s hits on Vice City FM:

Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

I’ve spent a few days thinking about the Tesla Roadster reveal and landed somewhere I haven’t seen much discussion. I’m neither a Tesla fanboy nor a Tesla hater. And I couldn’t care less whether what we saw technically qualifies as a flying car. Three takeaways: (1) The risk of that live demonstration going horribly wrong was real. Almost no CEO would willingly expose their company to that kind of public humiliation for a product with so little financial upside. Elon did. (2) That willingness to attempt the seemingly impossible is what makes Tesla special. It’s also arguably Elon’s greatest contribution to America. He’s helped bring back something we’ve lost. The American spirit of chasing big scary ideas that most people think are impossible. That mindset is spreading across a new generation of founders and its long term impact on America’s future could dwarf anything Tesla ever sells. I think this is deeply underappreciated. (3) Can we just acknowledge how insanely cool that moment was? We’ve reached a strange place culturally where even extraordinary feats of human ingenuity immediately become arguments about why they don’t count. Not everything needs to be a debate. Sometimes we should just be able to stand back together and marvel at what humans are capable of. I’ve been both bullish and critical of Tesla’s ambitions over the years. But watching Elon and his team push the boundaries of what’s possible reminds me why I’m glad we have him. Whether the Roadster ever makes Tesla a dollar or impacts $TSLA stock price is almost beside the point. We need more people willing to risk failure in pursuit of things the rest of us think are impossible. Because when they succeed we all win.

Today on generational wealth. Ramp's first 10 employees may well be sitting on $1B + in stock. Employee #1's initial stake alone could be worth over $300m In 2019, Ramp was at $0.21 / share. Today it raised at $160 / share. Startups typically give their first 10 hires ~5% of the company. @sama says it should be 10% minimum, and Ramp is the type of company to be on the generous side. Especially given the talent density at the company. 1/3rd of its first 60 hires were ex-founders. By 2021, @tryramp had set aside ~1/4th of the company for employees. Most startups set aside closer to 15%. If the first 10 got ~10% between them and never sold (via secondary / tender), their original grants alone would be worth over $1B now. Hire #1, ~$340M Hire #10, ~$41M That's post-dilution (~80%). Share price still up ~760x from 2019. Not yet fully liquid ofc. Once again, only from original grants (total could be higher) We don’t know the true grant values, so these are estimates. Chart and assumptions below.

🧊 Inner Igloo recap, Oct 16. Inner Igloo is the biweekly call where Luca Netz and the Pudgy Penguins team update NFT holders. This one was mostly Luca explaining why Abstract was shut down, plus a PENGU ETF filing update and where focus goes next.

1/ Recently an unnamed source shared data exfiltrated from an internal North Korean payment server containing 390 accounts, chat logs, crypto transactions. I spent long hours going through all of it, none of which has ever been publicly released. It revealed an intricate ~$1M/month scheme of fraudulent identities, forged legal documents, and crypto-to-fiat conversion. Enjoy the findings!

Today, Ramp raised $1.85B at a $60B valuation. Seven years ago, Karim and I wrote our mission on a Post-it: “Save companies time and money.” Our mission hasn't changed. It’s just gotten bigger.
