Mind you. We just had a pandemic where the government “could not” and would not build hospitals and care centers rapidly to keep up with the overcrowded hospitals and understaffing at our hospitals but they can build a concentration camp in 8 days if they follow regulations
I don’t think anyone realizes how impressive Alligator Alcatraz is. The State of Florida built this 3,000 bed federal prison in eight days. The director tells me it could have been done in 72 hours were it not for some regulatory hold-ups. Now all the state needs is DOJ approval to deputize the National Guard as Deportation judges and this will become the most efficient deportation center in American history. 🇺🇸👊🏼

Hey reminder when you use Grok to generate the shittiest jersey swap or picture of a player as a goat imaginable you are poisoning people in Memphis
Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI is running a massive data center in Memphis, Tennessee. The facility neighbors historically Black neighborhoods and is powered by 35 pollution-spewing methane gas turbines the company is using without legal permits.

Waving at babies is an art. Some of you aren’t real baby-wavers. Light and cheer doesn’t radiate from you. When you wave, the babies don’t laugh or smile, they keep a straight face like they don’t see you.

i am just so disgusted by the notion that we have to indulge any negative attitudes toward immigration. these are people. they aren't chaos, they aren't violence. they are people. you could have been them, they could have been you. there's no morally defensible compromise.

if you're a PhD applicant with acceptances to programs in the US, you should ask your potential advisor what is happening at the university, in the department, or at least in their own heads in response to Mahmoud Khalil's abduction and deportation.

These lithium powered easily discarded vapes use cobalt obtained from Congolege mines where people work in incredibley dangerous conditions for slave wages, and are experiencing a genocide in the #DRC because American, European and Chinese conglomerates want to possess the land.
Someone dumped a single-use vape on my doorstep so I extracted the lithium cell and used it to power this iPod. These cells are perfectly rechargeable and putting them in single-use products really ought to be an ewaste crime.

I don't think people realize how incredible it is that a movie rendered in nearly real-time in free software on a single computer just won the Oscar for best animated film. If there was ever any proof you don't need AI, this is it.
Flow was made entirely with Blender and rendered in real time with EEVEE. We didn't use a renderfarm. The final render was done on my PC. There was no compositing, all the colors were tweaked and adjusted using shaders.

It's important to remember that they don't want public clean water to exist because Americans having to privately buy all their clean water is an incredible profit opportunity for evil shitheads.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court just weakened the Clean Water Act's limitations on raw sewage discharge into our water in a 5-4 ruling.

All these beauty products that ppl are obsessed with. Ppl have gone to lengths to ensure products aren't testing on animals but don't bat an eyelash at the history of these being tested on and damaging Black folks. Thank you for this important report.
My latest for @TeenVogue explores the horrific story of popular skincare ingredient Retin-A. Before Retin-A was approved by the FDA in 1971, it was tested on hundreds of incarcerated Black people in Philadelphia without their informed consent. The survivors still bear the scars

Not just the highly educated. Welsh miners formed study groups to read Austen and Dickens. Scottish shepherds built lending libraries. Watchmakers & cabinetmakers taught themselves Greek and Latin. The loss of working-class autodidact culture is one of history's great tragedies.
I really don’t think people quite grasp just how much more well read highly educated people used to be in the past.

For my course on academic ableism I JUST taught how physicians came up with this whole "work and exercise are cure-alls for disability" in the 19th century. This is at the heart of almshouse (workhouse) and asylum building. 1/3
For the majority of disabilities physical fitness improves quality of life and reduces symptoms. I know because I am disabled and my life is always better when I eat well, work out, and spend more time outside. Don't let delusional Twitter leftists sabotage your well-being.

I will not stop talking about the Super Bowl. It destroyed New Orleans and cost my partner and I everything we have. The sport, the NFL, the war on homeless and trafficking victims, the absurd white supremacist police presence are a stain that cannot be removed all for what?
In preparation for today’s Super Bowl, state police forced over 100 homeless men and women onto buses under threat of arrest, dumping them in a freezing warehouse. Tents destroyed, belongings lost. Press are barred from the site. The price tag for this cruelty? $17.5 million

Let’s talk about some of the real victims of property theft. 70 years ago, on this day, Sophiatown’s destruction commenced. At dawn, 4000 police and soldiers cordoned off the suburb and houses were demolished. Trucks moved families to Meadowlands.

Me, while my family’s watching the Super Bowl: “man, it’s so fucked up that New Orleans spent $17M disappearing homeless people into a warehouse to clean up for this.” My family:
