He's probably lying, but this is how we should do a wealth tax and UBI I call it Universal Capitalism: a revenue-neutral wealth tax, payable in equity, that is directly distributed without sale Sidesteps valuation and prevents the doomsday scenario where 10 guys own it all
You can tell this is a lie because he could just do it now

Oh I shd add: Deisseroth’s work was (say it w me!) supported with public funding through federal science agencies incl NIH, NSF, and DARPA. And I daresay few political deciders in 2004 would have been excited to put algal proteins in HEK cells or neurons. Scientists knew, though.

Last year I did a long theory paper on the propagation of ultrafast pulses through gain media I feel like I buried the lede a little in pursuit of generality. One of my favorite results is just "vanilla" gain saturation. The operator order matters a lot! doi.org/10.1002/lpor.2025005…

For instance, did you know that the lineshape function applies to both the gain saturation and the field? I had no idea, but it does! This formalism is nice because it shoves all the microscopic dynamics into the lineshape (L_2) and gain recovery dynamics (L_1)

And yes, this is just a short version of the Maxwell-Bloch equations. But I like that you can turn your brain off and make whatever approximations you want. Slow gain medium? L_1 becomes an average, and you get the classic Haus master equations Fast gain medium? Adiabatic away
