A U.S. congressman wants to change how we legally “own” video games.
Rep. Ritchie Torres has announced plans to introduce the Power To The Players Act, a bill that would direct the FTC to create rules protecting consumers who buy video games.
The proposal would give players three basic rights:
>The right to own the games they purchase, rather than simply receiving a revocable license
>The right to keep playing games after online servers are shut down, through an offline mode
>The right to transfer or resell games they own
Torres argues that if a company can take a game away simply by shutting down its servers, then the consumer didn’t really buy the game in the first place.
Torres also hopes the legislation could eventually establish a precedent for ownership rights across other parts of the digital economy:
“If you pay for it, you own it.”

Some of you are going to spend your entire youth driving a 2008 Corolla, eating unseasoned chicken, and declining trips to Europe because you need to max out your Roth IRA.
Then you'll die at 66 with $3.7 million in Vanguard.
Your wife's second husband will spend $42,000 of it on a Mediterranean cruise, order the lobster twice, and post "money comes and goes, memories last forever."
And the worst part?
That mf will be right.

Wall Street really convinced millions of 25-year-olds with functioning knees, raging sex drives, and a passport to put 15% of their paychecks into a 401(k) instead of enjoying their lives.
All so at 73 they can buy a $140,000 RV to drive 11 miles to Cracker Barrel and be asleep by 6:30.
And if you question this, you're financially illiterate.
Someone needs to vibe-code a gated retirement community for social media exclusively for boomers.
Call it “Assisted Posting.”
48-point font. A “SHARE IF YOU AGREE” button the size of a steering wheel. An endless feed of boomer selfies and 900-word lectures about how nobody wants to work anymore.
An AI reply bot that says “YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, LINDA” to every single post.
All of it posted at 11 AM on a Tuesday from a house they bought for $37,000.
Tell them Facebook moved there.
The rest of us deserve to argue with idiots our own age.
