Does fidelity work in learning design? Too often I think it reminds me of IKEA. Recently went to IKEA and followed the path until we picked out a “big girl bed” for my youngest. It took me 3+ hours to follow those directions and build that bed. At the end of that time we had a bed and I felt a sense of accomplishment for finishing the task/project. My daughter was happy and I felt it was money well spent. Did I learn anything though? No. Do I now know how to build a bed? No. I do know how to follow directions. I was compliant during the process. But the only transfer that happened was realizing following directions makes a task like that easier. How often do our kids follow the directions with little learning or transfer to demonstrate on the other side of a task or learning experience? Now imagine if I had a robot/AI at home to follow the directions and build it for me…

Six years ago I watched @MathforLove's Ted talk for the first time, I felt so inspired by it! This year I was honored to read Dan's feedback on an early copy of Math Play. THANK YOU for being a part of the #MathPlay story #CodeBreaker #ITeachMath #MTBoS 🔗amazon.com/dp/1990566561

The entire math edu world would be a lot less annoying if people could remember that the following things are different: * remembering facts * memorizing the steps of an algorithm * being able to solve a problem in one specific way 1st and 3rd are essential, 2nd is usually bad.

Do you know what makes students think math is fun? When they understand it. We don’t have to make math fun…it already is. We just need to find better ways to help students learn it. – at California, USA

One of my favorite choral counts ever, I think. We really dug into the “why” today behind the patterns we noticed, and invited kids to come find more patterns and annotate their thinking. Some of my favorite ideas next…
