Kemi is bang on. Britain must become a nation that builds - and at a sensible cost, not block at every turn. I am running for Mayor because London must get building again.
Cliveden House burnt down in 1849. The architect behind Parliament rebuilt it in two years. Now, Parliament has spent over a decade just planning its own repairs. What happened to the country that built things? 👇

I was priced out of London in my early 20s, and far too many are experiencing the same thing now. Hardworking families, and especially young people, are paying the price of a failed housing policy in our city. I am running for Mayor to rebuild London's broken social contract. standard.co.uk/homesandprope…

NEW: How the push to ban data centre construction in Britain is based on sloppy research. One paper widely cited in the media and by the Green Party contains multiple howlers: - It claims that a single data centre will be responsible for 8% of the East of England's water shortfall. This is wrong by a factor of almost 100. - It suggests data centres are to blame for England's predicted 5bn litre daily water shortfall. Yet under the most water-hungry assumptions, new data centres would account for less than 3% of it. Under more realistic assumptions, it's just 0.5%. - It compares global AI water withdrawals with British household water consumption. But these are completely different things. Most withdrawn water is returned to its source. The comparison exaggerates AI's water footprint by around ten times. - It repeatedly uses worst-case estimates of data centre water consumption, ignoring that many data centres use little or no water for cooling. One of its sources is literally titled Overestimating AI's water footprint. The real cause of Britain's water shortages isn't data centres. It's our failure to build reservoirs. samdumitriu.com/p/will-data-…

England built 1.1 million homes between 2021 and 2025.... yet the housing shortage got worse. A bombshell new Centre for Policy Studies report by @Ben_A_Hopkinson reveals the scale of Britain’s housing crisis: a shortage of 6.9 million homes compared with the Western European average. Decades of under-building AND rapid population growth have left Britain falling further behind. We must address both. Read the full piece: cps.org.uk/research/the-uks-…

I suspect that I'll die before we get a western politician saying on housing that "if prices are high, we recognise that these are legitimate price signals" Instead we get harebrained schemes that end doing way more harm than good by crushing supply or subsidising demand
Singapore's PM on Singapore's high cost of living. "...you cannot ask for high income and low prices."

Excited to come out of stealth today with @amphiotech A few years ago, I was writing reports on why the West can't build anymore. Then I went to work for one of Europe's fastest-growing research companies and realised the election-grade tools to win were sitting right there. So we built a company that points them at critical infrastructure. If you're building something, get in touch at amphio.com
This week, the capital of AI - San Francisco - paused construction of all new data centres. Across the West, $130bn of projects were blocked in the first quarter of 2026 alone. Not by capital, not by energy, not by engineering. By the people who live there. Today we launch amphio.com to arm the people building critical infrastructure with the election-grade data they need to win these fights. Using on-the-ground researchers who gather the local knowledge an online survey written hundreds of miles away cannot pick up, we mass-measure public opinion and model it down to individual neighbourhoods against a database of over 300 million adults. The projects that get built in this decade will be the ones that understand the ground they're being built on.

What’s the evidence on rent control? I charted the findings from 112 studies: Great for rent-controlled tenants ✅ But: Pushes up rents for other people ❌ Pushes down new housing construction ❌ Pushes down building quality ❌

The internet never disappoints.
'How can you carry a ladder on a bike!?' @FestAKINBUSOYE isn't convinced by @HinaBokhariLD's suggestion that builders could use cargo bikes to help tackle high fuel costs...

This is absolutely insane.
Replying to @rcolvile
Heathrow: - Heathrow’s third runway, at £21bn for just the runway, will be 10 to 70 times more expensive than similar projects elsewhere - Its planning application alone, at £800m, costs more than actual new runways in Madrid, Dublin, Chicago, Brisbane, even Manchester...

Or you could just start building more homes and importing fewer people, rather than violating the principle of private property.
I said it in 2020 and I’ll say it again. If you leave a home empty long-term in the middle of a housing crisis, it should be seized. Today’s announcement is great news.

It’s called ownership. If you own something you should be free to occupy it or leave it empty. The long grasping fingers of Socialism are coming for everything you have telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

Shelter is a charity, meant to fight homelessness. Last year they took a testimony from a veteran. He wanted to talk about fighting for his country, PTSD and being homeless. They tried to force him to spout pro-migration propaganda. Utterly insulting - to him and their donors.
EXCL: The homelessness charity Shelter has been accused of forcing its open-borders agenda on a military veteran by urging him to rewrite a personal testimony to include a defence of migrants getting houses dailymail.com/news/article-1…

Kate McCann: Taxpayers are to pay £70,000 for the refurbishment of radical cleric Abu Hamza's wife’s home. A £1.7 million pound home and only she lives there. Is that fair? Angela Rayner: I’m not going to get into individual cases. Kate McCann: You’re the Housing Secretary.

So why not build some houses they can live in, rather than social housing for client voters?
Let's be honest. A lot of young people have stopped believing they'll ever own their own home. That's what happens when rents are high, house prices are high, and saving for a deposit feels impossible. My Labour government is stepping in to help. With Your First Home, first-time buyers will be able to buy a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%. Because hard work and saving should count for something. And because the dream of owning your own home shouldn't belong only to those with help from the bank of Mum and Dad.
