I really love our campus and its atmosphere @WUR, but some places are still a thorn in the side. Today, I even observed live mosquito larvae in the water of this ‘pond’ underneath our auditorium (Omnia). More greenness will promote natural enemies. @KarenKloth as witness ;).

Teaching @WUR in September means tick hunting for the Basics of Infectious Diseases course. Nice start and tour @wildvanavolare wildlife rescue center (many ticks from hedgehogs!) and today monitoring verges of forest tracks for questing ticks.

@tessascupoftea presenting her interesting work on co-infections in #mosquitoes #DARN

How cool is that? My daughter asked me to help me out with her 4th grade secondary school #Biology test on the #Evolution chapter. Of course I can help with this excellent example of evolution and adaptation in the common house mosquito 🤣@OneHealthEJP @OneHealthPact @freekvonk

Today’s temperature: 7 degrees C. According to literature, the temperature at which nymphal ticks become active. And sure they did: 100+ nymphs and few adults were collected for Carlijn’s tick infection practice studies in half an hour!

Masterclass for Technasium students @OneHealthPact @CharlotteLinth @BlomRody

Interesting talk about #CitizenScience and schistosomiasis surveillance. Lots of parallels with our mosquito work. Good work from @HuyseTine, @NoeliaVaBh and team. #ICOPA2022

#ICOPA started Monday, but today is my start with a nice talk on #malaria eradication and the tools we need for that. Quoting Lars Hviid (and Ronald Reagan): there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Which shirt to choose for today’s #WorldMosquitoDay…? Of course, one is a non-biting species. Outreach and education are critical to tackle mosquito-borne diseases. #CitizenScience #Muggenradar

I’m reminded about work on this #Sunday #Fathersday 😬
