In Sept 1995, Tim Walz's Nebraska National Guard unit received the brand-new M109A5, a nuclear-capable 155mm howitzer.
The classified SOP manual for its operation vanished shortly after. Walz, who frequently had sole access to the secure area, had just returned from his honeymoon in China.
An ex-colleague later tipped the FBI, citing suspected espionage. By 2008, China rolled out the PLZ-05, a near-identical 155mm self-propelled howitzer. Walz made 30+ trips to China over the years.
The missing manual story? Still barely covered. Why is a potential national-security breach this serious still just whispers? Demand answers.
