If true, all praise to Burnham for this. Another culture war load of nonsense imported from right wing Uncle Sam which disenfranchises the electorate.
🚨NEW: It's been revealed Andy Burnham is rushing through laws to scrap photo ID checks in polling stations [@Telegraph]

Come on lads. Let’s all stop commenting on the net about how a stranger who happens to be a woman looks. It’s just not cool and she owes us nothing.

I think this is one of the saddest things I’ve ever read on this site. America huh.

That’s a very long way of saying the guy got a girlfriend.
Yesterday Tom Banton scored his 1st hundred for England & first thing I thought of was not his reverse sweeps. It was a sentence he told Wisden not long ago, that he had stopped enjoying cricket and only turned up because it was his job. Odd thing to hear from a boy who hit 100 off 51 balls against Kent in 2019 and termed as next Kevin Pietersen. KKR wanted him,Brisbane heat wanted him, Peshawar Zalmi wanted him & England wanted him. then things slid slowly. Bio-bubbles, lonely hotel rooms, Covid, low scores and by 2022 he was out of England side again. Even Pietersen, who had backed him from start, said on air that Banton was wasting his talent by hitting everything in the air. Harsh, but not entirely wrong. He sat in his room and admitted something that most players are too scared to say out loud. "I hated cricket. I didn't really enjoy playing it, I just had to do it because it was a job." that honesty saved him. He found Sam Billings, who became his "life advisor" speaking 3 times a week. He stopped using the sidearm ball thrower in nets because it was creating bad habits. He went back to basics. Building innings instead of trying to win them in the powerplay. Then came Taunton in April 2025, He scored 371 runs against Worcestershire in 403 balls, more than 8 hours, and Justin Langer's Somerset record of 342 was gone. A batter known for quick fireworks sat through all of that and shed a few tears in the dressing room later. Brendon McCullum brought him back to England setup last year, 3 years after he was dropped and said sometging tiny that meant a lot to Banton. So yesterday, series level at 1-1 against Sri Lanka, Duckett out for 0, Root gone for 18, England a bit shaky. Banton and Harry Brook added 150 together. He reverse swept Colombage for 6 to move into the 90s, then drove Wellalage through extra cover to reach his 1st England hundred. Later he joked that his mother stays away from ground because he never scores when she is watching. She missed this one as well. KP wanted the ball kept on the ground & fair enough. But it was his reverse sweep that told us Banton had stopped being scared. He once hated the game and yesterday he reverse swept his way back into loving it.

Just hurry up and get building. Don’t stop at 3 runways, build the 4th also as you’ll need it by 2040 no doubt.
On 27 October we will launch our eight-week 2026 Public Consultation, for members of our local community to have their say on expansion. 🏘️ Across more than 20 public events and six online events, local residents will be able to meet experts on a range of topics including noise, air quality and the environment, before giving their feedback. 🛜 Information will be available to read online, alongside events. The consultation will provide: 🏘️ Opportunities for the community to share views on how expansion should be delivered locally and responsibly 🤝 Help shape a project designed to deliver national benefits while minimising local impacts Heathrow runs year-round engagement with its neighbours, with regular forums on a range of local community priorities, giving residents a direct channel with the airport’s leaders. Recent local polling shows clear majority support for expansion and the jobs and economic boost it will give to the region, and nationwide. Find more info here: mediacentre.heathrow.com/pre… Becky Coffin, Heathrow's Director for Communities and Residential Property said: “We agree with the Prime Minister that local voices must be heard. We know from consistent polling over the last decade that communities support our plans for expansion, and support is only growing over time. But more than that, we want local people, businesses and education institutions to have genuine opportunities to shape and finalise our plans. This consultation is a chance to do just that.” Full details of the time, date and location of public events will be published in October, ahead of the start of the consultation period. This is so true. The rational part of my mind wonders if I bought a new mattress would sleeping in the middle feel fine. As it feels so wrong physically and disturbs my sleep with ‘our’ mattress.
Something no one tells you when you are young is being content in yourself and sleeping in the middle of a double bed is a fleeting experience. My wife's been gone five years and I miss her every day and I only use half of my bed. I wish I could sprawl out and forget.

Why not spend the money increasing the workforce so that we don’t need to wait 30 minutes to speak to an advisor??
NEW: If HMRC delay you, they can repay you. Under Reform, if you’re stuck on the phone to HMRC for 30 mins, you’ll get a £30 tax credit at the end of the year. We will restore basic fairness to the taxpayer.

“Cut away, cut away for four.” Still gives me goosebumps hearing that.
How is this SEVEN years ago? 🤯 🗓️ On this day in 2019... 🥹

I suspect these are war graves but if not that’s a lot of low background steel all of a sudden and someone should get them to the breakers yard quick.
Dozens of German battleships from the Second World War have resurfaced along the Danube river, which separates Serbia and Romania. Water levels have reached a record low due to the dry weather in Europe this summer. Read more: trib.al/9FCZxIZ

You’ve got to wonder why and to what point. Nobody is asking for this. It’s a complete waste of compute and resources. The American right wing really will burn the world down just to “own the libs” why not put all this processor power to something useful like making half life 3!

To live in a land where the pleading politician really does do away with some red tape. Imagine if we could have that here in England/UK. Which we can of course if we stopped begging for more legislation.
Whoever wrote these Mamdani remarks had a lot of fun. And whoever came up with these pro small business, anti (bad) regulation policies, delivered by a socialist mayor, is smart. Folks can scream about evil Mamdani on this site, but in real life he’s showing us why he’s winning

Ticket prices are too high and they gave the finger to their most loyal fans the season ticket members. They deserve what they get.
What's the future for the NFL London games? I think it's interesting that the Eagles V Jaguars game was the most expensive out of the 3 but has sold out. The other 2 have sold very poorly, thousands of tickets remain unsold after the tickets have been on general sale for weeks... The NFL can't look at those seat maps and think all is well. Long gone are the days of ticket queues of hundreds of thousands, hours of wait and same day sell outs. Ticket prices, removal of season tickets, teams with smaller UK fan bases coming over, Jaguars fatigue, other games held in Europe meaning European fans don't need to travel to London to see a game, these are probably all factors. But what does the NFL do now? They have an agreement with Tottenham Stadium for 2 games until 2029-30 season. The Jaguars have an agreement to potentially play up to 3 games in London in 2027. Interesting times ahead for the NFL in London but one thing I think is certain, a London franchise just wouldn't be sustainable. @ProFootballTalk

Bit late for the applause. Not enough of them would support the man. Should have spent their time better arguing against some of his policy choices.
Downing Street has just published a photo of the cabinet applauding Sir Keir Starmer at their final meeting this morning.

Any sporting event? I’d take 21-3 over this any day as the greatest half and I’m a long suffering England fan 😆

The Bayeux Tapestry is 950 years old and England as a country is 1100 years old. USA still has a long way to go to catch up.
