Speaker Dustin Burrows is a tireless advocate for students, families, and educators. Under his leadership, the TX House passed HB 2 — a landmark investment in public education and greater opportunity.
This month, TPCSA joined principals from Richard Milburn Academy and @TriumphPHS in Lubbock to present @Burrows4TX with a well-deserved Charter Champion award (including some heartfelt student artwork).
Thank you Speaker Burrows for continuing to stand up for Texas students! #txed #txlege
Good Q from Sen @HagenbuchTX: "Is there a market for [a vacant school]?"
Answer: "Another challenge school districts have is there's only so many purposes an old elementary school can have."
🙋♂️ What if we let another #txed school use it?

While some are calling it misleading, I thought it was a bold literary decision by Nikole Hannah-Jones to imagine in her first-person essay a NYC without its 286 charter schools. It really heightens the tension.

My takeaway from the NHJ discourse is that America continues to be unreasonably polarized between people who think the only thing that matters is the other students and the only thing that matters is funding.
Managing the school is important!

fighting for every child requires a strong system of school accountability. don't let adults settle into low expectations & high grades. #txed

"I'm not saying this is a great option" but ISDs could use M&O for facilities like public #charterschools (rather than taxpayer-backed bonds). "It requires a great deal of fiscal discipline. It is not unheard of. There are districts that do this. It's rare." #txed #txlege

before raising rates, #txlege should have ISDs contribute 2% on employees' full payroll (like public #charterschools already do). ISDs currently contribute 2% only on the minimum salary schedule, creating a bigger gap as salaries increase #txed
Exec. Dir. Brian Guthrie explains TRS is not actuarially sound as a result of recently-passed legislation.
Due to a different - but related - measurement, TRS is asking for an increase in contributions of 1 to 1.5%.
Source could be employee, employer, or state. #txlege
“Charter schools were created to innovate, and innovation includes finding smarter ways to use limited resources,” said Alfredo Segura Jr.

good @ksatnews story today about a dangerous street crossing in front of a school. there's no reason public #charterschools shouldn't be able to authorize crossing guards & we'll fix that in the 90th #txlege session #txed
ISD trustees (are supposed to) recuse on related-party transactions. Public #charterschool trustees must recuse AND report (TEC 12.1166-68). TEA can audit & reverse it (TEC 12.1163). Maybe ISDs need some charter-level scrutiny? #txed #txlege
so are the ISDs going to condemn Barbers Hill, or naw? cause @TPCSAnews hauled ass to condemn & help fix issues 1/100th this size...

To every student starting something new this year, take it from Kaliyah: try hard, stay positive, and be open to what’s ahead. 💫
