“The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.” -Douglas MacArthur To the “Back in my day” crowd, remember that we complained, too. We endured real, unnecessary, systemic dysfunction. When we complained, no one listened. We were furious, we hated our leadership, and sometimes, people died. Let’s not let that happen again America doesn’t go to war. Rarely will the politicians who start the wars ever feel any hardship or make a single sacrifice. America sends our best 0.4% to war. They and their families fell that hardship and make the sacrifice that the service demands. Two things can be true. 1. Sailors aboard Lincoln and brave service members everywhere must keep up the fire and do their job; as tough as it gets. 2. Americans sitting at home, especially Veterans and most certainly politicians, must be do everything in our power to advocate for, protect, defend, and advance the cause those willing to serve; assuring that those folks are taken care of to the best of America’s ability. That process includes insuring that service members and their families do not endure undo or unnecessary hardship. Again, I’ve said too much.

I’M OUT $10K and my @SONY 400mm lens. A few weeks ago I decided to sell my @SonyAlpha 400mm f2.8 lens and use the proceeds to fund @CrisisReadyNews, the #JournalistSafety nonprofit I run. I sold the lens on @ebay; insured and shipped via @USPS. The buyer refused the package, he never even opened the package, and sent it back. During the “return to sender” process the USPS lost the package, and refuse to pay the insurance claim because, despite the tracking logs, loss cannot be proven to be their fault. To make things worse, EBay is charging me the $1100 transaction fee. I'm at the end of my wits, frustrated on many levels. I've disputed with EBay and the USPS, without success. If anyone has advice, I'd appreciate your help. If you care to make a donation, we'd appreciate your support. givebutter.com/journalistsaf…

In a previous life, I was a small part of the large team protecting the WashDC Hilton for these events. What we witnessed last night was a deranged man attempting a heinous act. He was stopped when a meticulously-made, expertly-staffed security plan functioned as designed.

Journalism is a team sport. Care for yourself and watch out for your teammates! #JournalistSafety
After moments of crisis and trauma, like those witnessed at the White House Correspondents Dinner, feelings of overwhelming stress are normal. We need to care for ourselves and our colleagues. Psychological First Aid is a way to offer colleagues a place to recover and path to resources they may need. For more info visit: mhpsshub.org/resource/pfa-a-… #WHCD #DCPress
