3 Phases of the E2 Investor Visa Process in 2025 Phase 1: The Investment and Supporting Documentation During phase 1, we work together with you to gather and organize all of the documents about you, your new U.S. business (which we can help you to establish, upon request), and your investment therein that are needed to satisfy the requirements of an E2 visa. This phase typically lasts at least three months but can take considerably longer depending on how much time you need to decide what your new U.S. business is going to be, make the requisite investments in it, open the business — preferably with at least one employee) — and provide the supporting documentation. Phase 2: The Application In this phase, we prepare your E2 visa application. It normally takes about 30 days but can be expedited upon request or if necessary. And, when it's ready, we submit your application to the U.S. embassy or consulate in your home country or, in some cases, USCIS. Phase 3: The Interview If your E2 visa application was submitted to a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad, an official will typically send you a notice in 1 to 3 months about when your interview will take place. Timing can vary significantly, however. Once your E2 visa interview appointment is scheduled, we’ll ensure that you’re ready to answer questions and make a great impression on the big day. E2 visa interviews typically don't last more than 10 minutes or so, and the consular official will normally tell you whether or not you’ll get the visa when it's over. If you've been approved, you'll leave your passport at the embassy, along with the passports of any derivative family members. Then, in about week or two, you'll receive your passports in the mail, along with the E2 visas. At that point, you’ll be free to travel to the United States and begin working for your E2 enterprise. All in all, you can normally expect the 3 phases of the E2 investor visa process to last between 4 to 10 months in most cases, and I continue guiding my clients for as long as it takes.
