When a citizen feels their government is hostile, corrupt, or failing them, the constitutional remedy lies in domestic accountability... voting, mass mobilisation, civil litigation, independent media, and using our courts. That is how a sovereign constitutional democracy operates. What you do not do...if you have an ounce of respect for national sovereignty is run to a foreign embassy, fly to Washington, and beg a foreign superpower to use economic sanctions and trade blackmail against your own country's economy. When interest groups invite foreign coercion, they aren't "protecting" marginalized citizens; they are asking a foreign hegemon to act as an un-elected, imperial veto over Parliament and the Constitutional Court. They are telling Washington: "We lost the democratic debate at home, so please starve our national economy until the government submits to what we want." Feeling aggrieved by the ANC does not give anyone a license to sell out South Africa’s sovereignty to Washington. You can fight domestic policy failures fiercely without becoming a local foot-soldier for foreign interference.

You, like me... can despise the ANC's governance and still recognise that letting a foreign superpower trample our national sovereignty is a terrible trade-off.
