How has following a football team evolved into arguing about bilateral international trade agreements and statistics on housing investments? This is the most gone the game has ever been.

How does this Manchester City story end? Only in June, Khaldoon insisted there’s no plans to sell. Abu Dhabi expert Christopher Davidson (one of the longest standing academics on the region…) sees an exit as inevitable…

Really getting sick of this argument that City's era was some solution to competitive balance
It was only good for City
The answer to this problem is proper redistribution rules, that's good for the whole game - but it's a lot more difficult

The lad unintentionally explained the exact mechanism of how sportswashing works😀
The core strategy of sportswashing isn't to buy a club and run it poorly or purely for ego. The strategy is for a state linked actor to use vast wealth to do a boss job of running a club and uplifting the surrounding community. By supporting thousands of jobs, building world class venues, and delivering relentless sporting success, the ownership successfully purchases the fierce, unshakeable loyalty of the fanbase and the local government.
Once that deep goodwill is established, it acts as a powerful geopolitical shield. When international observers criticise the UAE's human rights record, or when the Premier League investigates the club's financial practices, the ownership barely needs to defend itself. An entire army of fans and local stakeholders will step up to defend them, because their daily lives have genuinely been improved by the state's money. The "washing" is successful precisely because the local investment is so undeniably good.

GOP midterm strategy:
If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections, I’m going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America, $5,000! Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to signing those checks!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This repeats a promise Trump made in September 2026. The US has approximately 250 million adult citizens so the total cost would be over 1.25 trillion dollars. Congress must approve any such federal spending.

Playing in a stadium this small this evening should be good preparation for Marc Guehi and Elliot Anderson for the National League next season. Very handy for them.

This view that City made the league more competitive is… the opposite of the truth. It’s the most dominant spell ever seen in England:
- 100 and 98 points
- two trebles
- four in a row
None of these things had ever been done before
