For those not aware, NASA certified the Cybertruck as an Astronaut Emergency Egress Vehicle, allowing SpaceX to replace their aging MRAPs. If something goes wrong on the pad, the crew needs to get as far away as possible, as quickly as possible, and Cybertruck provides that speed and protection. A NASA spokesperson said that both the agency and SpaceX "assessed the capability of the vehicle for all situations that would be encountered in an emergency and found that the Cybertruck met NASA’s requirements."

A daň z nemovitosti taky."
Biosecurity is one of the most urgent challenges for the AI era. Bringing SynthID to biology so AI-generated proteins can be watermarked is a critical step - and we’re open sourcing SynthID Bio tools so the research community can build on this work. Published in @Nature today, congrats to the team! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
Very happy to announce that our team @GoogleDeepmind has pushed the boundaries of generative biology, achieving the successful synthesis of AI-designed proteins that are both functional and watermarked. This proof-of-concept watermarking of the building blocks of life is enabled by SynthID Bio, our new protein watermarking method. It is designed to safeguard the new era of AI-powered generative biology and strengthen global biosecurity. You can read my thoughts here on why watermarking AI-designed proteins is an important research breakthrough: xitter.cf/pushmeet/status/210531…

Today we announced the Claude-led discovery of a molecular machine that we suspect could represent a new gene editing mechanism. Its precise function, biotechnological utility (if any), or level of significance is not yet clear, but at minimum it is work I would have been proud to do as a PhD student. The work was done mostly, though not entirely, by Claude: our life sciences team suggested a broad area of research, Claude read through the literature and a bunch of genome data and discovered something interesting, then Claude proposed experiments to verify the discovery and our team carried them out. It’s easy to dismiss this as a one-off or curiosity, but we’ve repeatedly seen a pattern where AI performance in new intellectual domains goes from weak to superhuman in a matter of a few years. In 2023 models struggled to do math at the level of an average high-school student. In 2024 they started to do well on math competitions for the best high-schoolers in the country, in 2025 they started to solve minor open problems, in early 2026 more significant open problems, and in late 2026 they are beginning to solve the top few open problems in all of mathematics. We believe AI for biology is on a similar exponential trend. The main difference between biology and mathematics, of course, is that math can be done purely theoretically, while biology requires experimentation. Some have used this to draw the conclusion that AI’s utility in biology will be limited. We think this is wrong. As we’ve demonstrated today, humans can collaborate with AI to perform the experiments, validate key results in a few weeks and, if necessary, work with the AI to iterate on what they find. Eventually it may even be possible for Claude itself to safely perform the experiments by autonomously controlling lab equipment, with appropriate safeguards in place, but we aren’t doing that today (our lab is also a BSL1/BSL2 facility that doesn't handle materials dangerous to humans). More broadly, biomedical advancement has many stages — from fundamental biology discoveries, to translational research, to drug discovery, clinical trials, and finally the actual delivery of medicines and health care to patients. We are also interested in these later stages, but even simply accelerating the first stage of fundamental biological discoveries has the potential to speed up and broaden the entire pipeline. Improving our understanding of biology and sharpening biologists’ tools can drive forward all of the later stages, for example by identifying new drug targets, finding new therapeutic modalities, allowing for more precise measurement, and speeding up the experimental loop which itself further accelerates our understanding of biology. This will not in itself speed up clinical trial times, but if it succeeds it could greatly increase the number of promising candidates that go into the pipeline — an increase in throughput even though latency remains. In Machines of Loving Grace, I wrote about AI’s potential to “cure most diseases in 5-10 years” — a goal that sounds impossible, but one I believe is just barely possible if AI is applied to every stage of the pipeline. The first step is showing that AI can first help with, and then drive, biological discoveries. Claude’s discovery is the latest in a line of related prior work that goes back decades, beginning with systems like CRISPR, and continuing with discoveries like the bridge recombinase and VIPR in the past few years. Recently, there has been heightened interest in systems based on reverse transcriptase (RT) enzymes, the enzyme underlying the system Claude identified. And most recently, a Stanford team working independently described a novel RT system with an associated non-coding array that is in some ways similar to the one Claude found, though they are distinct systems that evolved independently from each other. I believe that we’re at the very beginning of finding such systems and developing them into powerful tools for biotechnology. I’m proud of the resources Anthropic has invested in accelerating the public benefits of AI through the life sciences, and we’re aiming both to grow our life sciences team and to work with other scientists to extend this approach to a broad range of problems. If you have a proposal for a research collaboration or are interested in joining our life sciences team, please reach out.
Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzyme’s gene sits a long array of repeating DNA—a structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR. We don’t yet understand what this system does, but only a handful of known systems share its features, and all of them are able to cut, copy, and paste DNA. Historically, the discovery of such programmable systems has helped revolutionize medicine. CRISPR, for instance, is now the foundation of genetic medicines. But it will take much more work to learn what this system does, and whether it can be put to similar use. Read more: anthropic.com/news/claude-di…

📣 ASML just said the quiet part out loud. Europe’s most valuable company sells zero chip machines in Europe. Not because the technology is lacking but because almost no new fabs are being built here. The EU Chips Act was supposed to fix that. It didn’t. The US, China and India roll out the red carpet and write the checks. Brussels bureaucrats write another strategy paper. Europe has the engineers and the capacity. It doesn’t have leaders who care about outcomes more than process and Bolshevik ideology. Nice work, unelected @vonderleyen and unelected @EU_Commission. 👎 But I know you guys take good care of yourselves. 8 salary increases in 3 years. bloomberg.com/news/articles/… 👇

This is super cool result for AI & protein design! Claude wrote CUDA kernels that beat NVIDIA's own cuEquivariance on triangle attention by 2.7–2.9x, and triangle multiplication by 1.7–3.2x. Two engineers supervised it. Neither had prior kernel engineering experience. 30+ models such as AlphaFold3, Boltz-2, OpenFold3, protein LMs, genomics, done in 4 weeks. Triangle ops are the cubic bottleneck in Pairformer-based structure prediction. Fix them and the whole stack gets cheaper: 4x average speedup, 100x fewer GPU hours for comparable protein design results. FlashPairformer is now open-sourced: anthropic.com/research/claud…
Biologists use specialized open-source models for tasks like modeling the structure of molecular systems, designing drug-like molecules, and predicting the effects of genetic mutations. But these models are often expensive to run, potentially limiting their impact. In our latest Science Blog, we share how Claude was able to optimize inference for more than 30 open-source models, making them 4x faster on average, partly by writing custom software for GPUs. We’re open sourcing all of the optimization code. Read more: anthropic.com/research/claud…

China has achieved a near-monopoly on refining critical minerals like lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements—while flooding global markets with solar panels, wind turbines and EV batteries. This represents a profound strategic miscalculation by the West. Decades of heavy subsidies, state planning, and aggressive climate mandates have created a stark paradox: pursuing decarbonisation now requires an unending transfer of Western wealth to a major geopolitical rival. While advocates framed the energy transition as a temporary phase on the path to long-term sovereignty, it has effectively traded one critical vulnerability for another. The West is replacing its historic dependence on Middle Eastern oil flows with an absolute reliance on Chinese industrial hardware and refined mineral supply chains. Critics argue that hardware lasts for decades—unlike imported fuel—but this ignores a fundamental reality: whoever controls the equipment, the refining capacity, and the replacement parts industry, retains total leverage over the energy grid. China has a massive head start, with lower production costs and and streamlined infrastructure. By degrading abundant, reliable hydrocarbon energy in favor of weather-dependent renewables, Western nations have already abandoned their own energy security. Heavy, energy-intensive industries—such as electric arc steelmaking, primary aluminum smelting, and synthetic fertiliser production—cannot pause when the wind drops or the sun sets. Power-intensive manufacturing has become economically unviable across Western nations. Essential core sectors are unable to produce basic components without foreign inputs. Rising electricity costs and grid instability are driving out high-paying jobs, striking directly at the working-class backbone of Western life. Relinquishing this industrial base has created severe national security vulnerabilities in an era of mounting global instability. China produces approximately 90% of the world's global photovoltaic components, refined critical minerals and battery cells. By discarding baseload energy without equivalent domestic alternatives, the West has handed the keys to the modern energy system to Beijing. This cements China's position as the world's dominant manufacturing power through an unprecedented transfer of Western capital.
