Excellent to have @HelenClarkNZ at the launch - when Labour came to power with Helen as PM (after I was a student) interest on loans stopped compounding (even while studying!) if living in NZ and it was a game changer. This is the next step to keep our young talent in NZ 👇
Great energy at @nzlabour campaign launch 🚀 today. @chrishipkins announced new policy to relieve student debt; see report below for details. Strong focus on building future for #NZ youth in NZ & relieving cost pressures on NZers. nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/l…

Former RM lawyer Rachel Brooking says the Government's decision not to define a hierarchy for the goals in its RMA replacement bills will lead to a lot of her old colleagues having a lot of work.

National rushed through amendments to, they said, enable supermarkets. So far no supermarkets but the same amendment is going to enable more fast tracked mining - ignoring community voice and environmental protections. This National government hates the environment. 👎

Electoral Commission just told the Justice SC that the changes to electoral law the Govt are pushing through (limiting enrolment to 13 days prior) won’t make vote counting any faster. It will take 20 days to count all the specials. They noted they didn’t recommend the change.

Budget 2025 is a disaster for our environment. Conservation investment is MIA while 75% of native species face extinction. The Govt is gambling with $133B in natural assets and our economy. This is environmental neglect, not leadership. We demand better. forestandbird.org.nz/resourc…

PM says law making binary - fast or slow. Rubbish. Can have quite fast law making with short select committee process and the opportunity for opposition MPs to ask officials and submitters questions. Scrutiny. Disgraceful to use all stages urgency. Plus no regulatory analysis!

ALL STAGES is different from using urgency for various stages of a bill’s progress. ALL STAGES has no ability for submissions. ALL STAGES leads to unnecessary & inefficient mistakes. ALL STAGES without a regulatory impact stmt when policy worked on for “18mths” cynical or chaotic
