MAPLE AVENUE STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT UPDATE – SATURDAY PAVING OPERATIONS The Maple Avenue Street Improvement Project is moving quickly, and the contractor is ready to begin milling the asphalt roadway surface from Veterans Circle to Brookfield Avenue. In order to minimize the impact on school and rush hour traffic, particularly near S.E. Gross Middle School, the contractor intends to work a handful of Saturdays over the course of the next two months in order to complete the resurfacing work. Tomorrow morning, Sept. 12, the contractor will begin milling the pavement from the Circle moving south so they can get past the school area. They plan to start very early, around 6 a.m., to impact traffic as little as possible. They will maintain two-way traffic with flaggers, but delays should be expected while the work is being completed. Whatever they do not finish for the south half will be completed on Monday, Sept. 14. They anticipate installing the first layer of asphalt on the south half the following Saturday, Sept. 17. In early October the contractor will likely be working multiple Saturdays to install the final layer of asphalt on the south side and complete the milling and first layer of asphalt from the Circle to 31st Street. We will provide additional information in the coming weeks as we obtain more information on work scheduling. Thank you for your patience as we complete this important infrastructure project. Kiwanis Park’s Newest Residents Are Here to Scare Off Some Unwanted Ones As you may have noticed, Canada Geese sure do love hanging out in Kiwanis Park. While they often gather near the banks of Salt Creek, they can also be found waddling around much of the park and along Arden Avenue. To encourage the geese to find other places to hang out, we’ve placed images of coyotes on yard signs around the park. We’re hoping these friendly-looking predators will make the geese think twice about settling in! There are currently three coyote signs in the park. You’ll find them: • Next to the sidewalk in front of the bandshell • On the hill near the top entrance to the Canoe Launch • On the hill overlooking the canoe launch path farther north Please don’t move the coyote signs. They’re part of our effort to discourage geese from congregating in these areas. We hope the coyote cutouts will have some effect. If they don’t, we’ll look for other solutions to help discourage the geese from congregating in these areas.
