One of our greatest wishes came true! 🩵 After 193 days, we got to take our sweet Wylder home for the very first time. Leading up to this moment, we experienced so many emotions — fear, doubt, and helplessness, but also excitement, extreme joy, and high hopes. Setting up his nursery was one of the hardest yet most beautiful things we did, not knowing if we would ever get to bring him home. We waited until the very last minute to do it. Waking up under the same roof as a family of four was something we dreamed of for 6.5 long months. We will fight and work towards what once felt unimaginable, doing everything we can to keep our baby boy here with us to enjoy this life on earth. Our hearts are full of hope that he will overcome this disease with the help of our incredible team working on a gene therapy for ABCA3. We want to thank every one of the medical professionals at Foothills and Alberta Children’s Hospital who have helped keep our little guy with us to this point. Incredible progress is happening! ✨ The scientists and doctors working closely with us. Dr. Bernard Thébaud and Dr. Sarah Wootton have made groundbreaking advancements in AAV gene therapy for ABCA3 in mice. This is promising news for Wylder, Oakley, and other babies battling this rare disease. But to safely test, manufacture, and administer the treatment, we need to raise $3 million to bring this therapy to clinical trials.
