ALT A screen shot of Alex's response to the survey reading: The largest challenge for me has been the lack of COVID mitigation in healthcare settings. Without proper masking with high quality respirators, most healthcare is too risky for me to access as an immunocompromised person. I have forgone or put off things like dental care and even surgeries due to the lack of COVID mitigations. I have been advised by my doctor to not receive treatment in person as much as possible due to the high risk any respiratory virus, especially COVID, poses to me. Providers are often upset about being asked to mask, and even if they do, the airborne nature of COVID means that it could be lingering in the air from previous appointments. This makes accessing care nearly impossible. Additionally, many hospitals and clinics lack basic accessibility tools like automatic door openers including places like bathrooms. This is incredibly difficult as a wheelchair user.
