My postgame report outside the Prudential Center for @wfuvsports as the Devils knock off the Avalanche, 4-3:
FINAL: Devils 4, Avalanche 3.
Two last-minute goals from Artturi Lehkonen weren’t enough for Colorado to overcome what was a great showing from New Jersey. Jake Allen, honored pregame, was marvelous in the goal and the Devils got contributions from a ton of guys offensively.
Wow. Avalanche score again, this time with 3.5 seconds to play in the game. It's 4-3 as Lehkonen finishes off his second goal in the last couple minutes.
Devils won as I was typing this though, lol. Ballgame over.
Colorado isn't done yet, though.
Artturi Lehkonen, called for a penalty earlier, slots one in.
4-2 Devils, 2:30 to play, 3rd period.
Open net again for the Avalanche.
The Avalanche pulled Scott Wedgewood out of the goal, as they had to, and it didn't work out.
Open-net goal from behind the blue line off the stick of Jesper Boqvist. Connor Brown picks up the assist.
4-1 Devils, 3:13 to play, 3rd period.
Devils lead it 3-1 with 5:28 to play, 3rd period.
Been a really strong showing from New Jersey tonight. They've fended off 2 power plays, are outplaying and outworking the Avalanche, and lead the SOG 40-26, as they have all season.
Evan Rodrigues called for hooking, and the Avalanche have a power play.
Feels like now or never tonight for Colorado.
3-1 Devils, 10:40 to play, 3rd period.
Just a gorgeous score from Arseny Gristyuk. Stole the puck, beat a man one-on-one, and backhanded it by Wedgewood in a one-on-one showdown. Unassisted goal and the fourth of the year for Gristyuk.
3-1 Devils, 13:55 to play, 3rd period.
The Avalanche had three players at the net all trying to poke the puck through, and Jake Allen somehow got it out of there with no harm done.
He's had a great night in goal.
2-1 Devils, 18:04 to play, 3rd period.
Really good second period for the Devils, and the game overall, for that matter.
They're outshooting the Avalanche 32-13, and lead the game 2-1.
Colorado is gonna need a third period comeback to avoid dropping both games of their East Coast back-to-back road trip.
The Devils have put all kinds of pressure on Scott Wedgewood tonight, and it pays off on their 28th SOG of the game.
Declan Chisolm tips one into the corner of the net for his first goal of the season.
Assist for Evangelista. 2-1 Devils, 6:00 to play, 2nd period.
Devils lead the Avalanche on SOG 19-4, but have still only come away with one goal.
Tied at 1, 15:20 to play, 2nd period.
Devils had a shot there, but goal-scorer Luke Evangelista lost his stick with 13 seconds left in the power play and New Jersey comes away empty.
1-1 after one period, but it's the Avalanche who have to feel good about the scoreboard, who were outplayed and outshot 14-4.
Our first power play of the evening comes with 1:38 remaining in the first period, and it belongs to the Devils.
Minor penalty goes against Denver's Artturi Lehkonen.
The Devils lead SOG 9-3, but it's tied at a goal apiece now.
Gabriel Landeskog forks one under the left pad of Jake Allen. No assist.
It's 1-1, 4:40 to play, 1st period.
If at first you don't succeed, try try again.
Luke Evangelista slaps one through. Give the assists to Hischier and Siegenthaler. It's Evangelista's 3rd of the season.
1-0 Devils, 12:28 to play, 1st period.
The Devils, who have outshot their opponent in every game this year, had about seven opportunities at the net but were unable to sneak one past Avalanche goalie Scott Wedgewood.
Scoreless, 13:59 to play, 1st period.
Couple of really nice saves from Jake Allen early on after being celebrated pregame for his 500th career game.
0-0, 17:27 to play, 1st period.
Jake Allen is honored at the Prudential Center for reaching 500 career NHL games:
He starts at goalie tonight for New Jersey.
Here at the Prudential Center for Devils-Avalanche, the first of a three game homestand for the Devils, who find themselves at .500 and in the scrum of the Metropolitan Division.
The Avalanche, meanwhile, have 11 points and are 3rd in the Central Division.
Here for @wfuvsports
