The 2026/27 sugar beet campaign is now underway, with our local British Sugar factory beginning processing today! Having visited the factory before, I know just how important the sugar beet industry is to our local economy, supporting jobs, local growers and the production of homegrown British sugar. It is also welcome news that British Sugar and NFU Sugar have reached agreement on the 2027/28 sugar beet contract, giving growers greater certainty for the future. I wish everyone involved in this year’s campaign well, and I’m looking forward to returning to the factory again next month!
