All European allies - Poland, Germany, Finland, Denmark and the Baltic States in particular - are preparing for unceasing Russian hostility, including terrorism, cruise missile, infrastructure sabotage, cyber and other asymmetric attacks, designed to impose political pressure on allied governments but not to trigger Article 5. They are all ramping up budgets and defensive preparations. We are not. The CIA Director travelled to Moscow to warn against an attack on a NATO member. The NATO Secretary General has expressed concerns about the UK’s preparedness. The First Sea Lord, MI6 and MI5 are warning of increased threat. Yet Andy Burnham’s Labour government is refusing to commit to a path to increased defence expenditure and says Social Security comes before National Security. The fact is though, without national security society is not secure. This Prime Minister and this government are placing the British people at risk not only from continued mass and illegal immigration, but also leaving us unimaginably vulnerable to hostile state asymmetric attack by grossly neglecting our defences.
