A British father of two got two years this week for a plastic bottle and a mouthful of swearing at police in Portsmouth.
The judge called him a thug. Said the sentence was to put other people off turning up.
I am a father. I know what two years looks like to children. School runs. Birthdays. Being in the house.
The court accepted he was not a dangerous offender. An empty bottle. That is what two years bought.
If the state wants deterrence, it has found the easy target. Men like him are easy to jail. The boats are not. The hotels are not. The people who keep sending the same press lines are not.
Wrong to throw things at police. Also wrong to pretend this sentence is about public safety.
It is about who they are allowed to make an example of.

Curious isn't it when this cunt and his brother did this to a female Police officer they were released from custody within 24 hours and sat back at home on their sofas.
Now we see a man charged with criminally damaging a dinghy and he's remanded overnight straight to court the next day.
