There have 5 instances of a team outside the Top 20 beating a team ranked 7th or better this year. One of those was Red River. The other 4 were by coaches who were in the @American_Conf last year.

That ties a record with Bryson Daily, Kelvin Hopkins, and Carlton Jones with 5 rushing TDs in a game for Army.
Godspower is back with 8 carries averaging 5.0 ypc. And somehow that's like the 5th most impressive part of the first half performance.
It would not have looked like this because the Committee would have found a reason to not rank Tulane and North Texas if those spots mattered for bids.
Here is what a 24-team College Football Playoff would have looked like in 2025, with two rounds of on-campus games:

The American could absolutely stay at 15 in football if they wish to. With Week 0 becoming Week 1, every team has 2 bye weeks each year (and sometimes 3). Army & Navy will already use some conference bye weeks for Air Force and UConn still needs late season opponents.
Two things I'm most curious about following #JMU going to The American
1. What does The American do next? There is no chance they stay at 15 teams, that would be a mess so who else will they add?
2. Is this the move that gets Western Kentucky back in the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt prioritizes regionality with their moves, Western Kentucky is a strong program that would fit in very well into the conference
So effectively, JMU is paying its own annual payout upfront for the remainder of the ESPN deal in exchange for membership.
More details on JMU's move to the American, per @YahooSports sources: Dukes have committed to pay more than $20 million in an entrance fee; annual distribution to American Conference members will not decrease; JMU makes the move as Sun Belt is exploring an increase in exit fees.
