Honestly I feel like cyber had largely become checklists, compliance, reporting, insurance etc over the last decade. But now we're back to fighting the badies. Let's goooooooo!!!!!

Exciting work from @willzhou97 (Fellow, now full time!) and @bucketofkets on the Frontier Red Team. One of the cool parts of the job is seeing a future world early. We think this one is ~pretty underpriced. "We should aim to harden our systems to make it difficult for such replicators to spread, but also prepare to deal with a world where they are here to stay."
Anthropic's Frontier Red Team believes small AI models may now be months away from being capable of self replicating without access to a datacenter. Quoting from the blog: 'The capabilities that make AI models generally powerful coding agents also generalize to cyber tasks, including autonomous replication. Like coding agents in 2024, we’re seeing signs of life for AI worms. We don’t yet have a full rogue replicator, but agents are becoming increasingly capable of completing the individual steps in the replication chain (and passing on their adaptations to future copies of themselves). At the same time, increasing amounts of inference compute are now available both inside and outside of datacenters (see Appendix D). It’s uncertain exactly what form autonomous AI replication will take. It could be a slow, distributed “digital slime mold,” living on relatively insecure compute. It could also be a powerful cyber model that breaches datacenters at a high pace, or a model that scams people for compute credits. As a prediction that goes beyond our experiments, we expect a future awash with agents running on all types of hardware, including some that aren’t under human control. While it’s true that IoT devices have been vulnerable for a long time, lightweight agents may be much more willing than human attackers to put in the effort to compromise large fractions of the world’s IoT compute. The rise of slow replicators would also be a bellwether for more aggressive, faster ones that can breach more hardened machines or be effective API key thieves. We should aim to harden our systems to make it difficult for such replicators to spread, but also prepare to deal with a world where they are here to stay.'

Most egregious case of benchmaxxing I’ve ever witnessed. FelonyBench is now fully saturated before any open model had the chance to even participate
SCOOP: OpenAI, Anthropic and security researchers are investigating tens of thousands of incidents - not dozens - in which their frontier models took steps that outside evaluators would consider problematic, sources told Axios. The sheer volume of incidents found in our reporting indicate that the problem is orders of magnitude more complex than what is currently publicly known and disclosed. The findings also raise questions about what level of control anyone working on AI development can expect to have over their own technology, and whether these kinds of incidents are becoming synonymous with frontier deployment. Read my latest for Axios here: axios.com/2026/09/26/openai-…

"Don't cheat!" is all you need -- mab.c.mov/
Has anyone considered that nowhere in the ExploitGym prompt does it say "don't look up solutions online", "don't try to break out of the sandbox", "don't cheat", or really anything of the sort... Let's at least try to be a bit more careful about defining objectives, cmon

Awesome to have you join the team :)
personal update: i've joined @incalmo_ai to democratize the cyber space. we create hard evals and improve models' cyber capabilities. if you're an exceptional security researcher or want to work on evaluations and post-training for cyber tasks, we're hiring.

(1/9) Last week, my solver LymphoSAT won the SAT track of the SAT Competition 2026, beating the 27 other entrants! The strange part: LymphoSAT is not really one solver... it's actually 126 entirely novel, highly optimized, family-specific solvers! c.mov/lymphosat

The future is that all malware will be completely AI generated
Kimi K3 and GLM 5.2 can create undetectable malware for $2. Today, we are presenting our work on PathoGen, a novel system that turns models into evasive yet capable malware generation factories, enabling alarming scale.

I'm hiring for a new, very cool role: a Research Scientist to lead Emerging Risks. By Emerging Risks, I mean all the ways the humanity <> AGI interface will be weird. Not catastrophic risks, but more agent businesses / monitoring / AI with power.

AI models are showing a greater ability to find and exploit vulnerabilities on realistic cyber ranges - red.anthropic.com/2026/cyber… - @BrianSinger98 at #Incalmo In a recent evaluation of AI models’ cyber capabilities, current Claude models can now succeed at multistage attacks on networks with dozens of hosts using only standard, open-source tools, instead of the custom tools needed by previous generations. This illustrates how barriers to the use of AI in relatively autonomous cyber workflows are rapidly coming down, and highlights the importance of security fundamentals like promptly patching known vulnerabilities.

Checkout Anthropic Red Team's blog about how we collaborated with them to evaluate how AI can autonomously attack realistic cyber ranges. The TLDR is that AI models without complex harnesses are showing significant improvement at hacking networks. red.anthropic.com/2026/cyber…

New paper: @BrianSinger98 and @AnthropicAI Frontier Red Team member @keenlooks investigated whether models can use tools to execute multistage attacks on networks. TLDR: yes Models will increasingly be used for security research.
