The police response in Calgary to the university student protest last night is a noteworthy contrast to police responses to neo-Nazi and anti-LGBTQ+ rallies in this city. I've lived here my whole life and am shocked to see the different approaches.

Last night’s vigil by Canadian journalists for our peers killed in the Middle East, mostly Palestinian but also Israeli and Lebanese, was sober, thoughtful and much needed. Who was there - and who wasn’t - was also telling.
So heartened by the turnout at tonight’s #journalistsforjournalists vigil. We must continue to protect press freedom in all parts of the world. Grateful to those who made this event possible. @fatimabsyed @Pacinthe @inoriroy @sonyafatah @JournalismTMU @InspiritFdn @AmnestyNow

What I hate about Truth & Reconciliation Day is how the government and politicians, who have power to make real change, have encouraged everyday Canadians to think reconciliation is achieved through individual capitalist consumption. Buying orange shirts and donuts, for example.

Hold your children close. Pray a prayer of thanks they’re not in threat of being stolen from the government & sent to imprisoned houses of horrors. That u can mold them, hold them & raise them in their 1st language & culture in love. Pray 4 the ones who never had the chance 🧡 – at Toronto, Ontario
My first dispatch for @TheLocal_TO. Very grateful to everyone who spoke to me, and @nickhunebrown for thoughtful edits.
The majority of residents in Don Valley East rent, but for the last 28 years they’ve been represented by one of the most pro-homeowner councillors in the city. @Bren_Doherty asks: Who speaks for the renters? thelocal.to/ward-profile-war…

For a free market economic system, capitalism sure requires a lot of state intervention and shenanigans to keep the system from imploding.
