Fridays in the bakery have become pretty special since we started making Challah. I'm in awe of the bakers' skills here. I am happy to say I can't take any credit for these beauties. My braiding skills are...not great.
Ready at 1pm every Friday 💕

As a former small business owner, I deeply appreciate the unique perspective that independent entrepreneurs bring to the policy table. Thank you @BetterWayCAN for visiting Queen’s Park. We look forward to advancing paid sick days, good wages and commercial rent reform with you.

Important insights by @HolaKarla on commercial leasing - shout out to our neighbs Sharpfle Waffle who are recent victims of this messiness and whose sitch is explained in the article.
We shouldn't have to rely on the occasional goodwill of landlords - we need better regulation
Did you know in Ontario there is no limit on how much a small business rent can increase once the lease is up and set for renewal? The lack of provincial commercial rent control is changing our neighborhoods.

I wrote a lil' something for @ottawamag about the case for paid sick days in the foodservice industry. Thanks to @MooShuIceCream for their contribution to this piece ❤️

The minimum wage is an exploitation wage, a starvation wage -- even with the Ford government's increase.

Great to see @karonliu covering no-tipping restaurants!
We have a handful of member restaurants (hi @dineaiana, @dispatchresto & more off Twitter) that feature this model.
They all indicate lower turnover, less workplace stress, and consistent staff as great benefits.
I checked in with TO restos that did away with tipping and upped the wages since the start of the pandemic. Staff tell me they can focus more on service and live in the city, higher retention rates, and new customers.

70% of workers in Canada who earn less than $25,000 per year do not have permanent paid sick days - and many are women. The BWA is challenging businesses to rethink their approach to paid sick days to reduce the wealth gap between men and women. We're here to show you how!

‼️BREAKING: Health workers, worker advocates & small business leaders are at Queen’s Park demanding action from govt to address healthcare & cost-of-living crises.
This means 10 permanent #PaidSickDays that actually work for patients, not just large corporations.

Dusted off the flour to be at Queen's Park today to talk about the CPC's inadequate sick days program.
We are calling for:
adequate, permanent, employer-paid sick days for all workers in Ontario.
Let's goooooo!

Welcome Red Lantern Coffee Co. to the Better Way Alliance!
Red Lantern started as a passion project for owner Craig Marentette. Customers loved the beans so much that they demanded a retail roastery and cafe in the town of @KingsvilleOnt.

What are the top 3 challenges restaurants face in 2023? I'd say staffing (again), pricing (worse than last year) and a PR crisis. tvo.org/article/three-big-ch…

Whether your business is serving grilled reindeer heart on a bed of fresh pine...or eggs and bacon - you need to pay workers. Period.
This is a maddening article from the @nytimes about all too common workplace abuse in restaurants.
