We've had multiple reports of oil pollution in the River Calder between Fall Ings Lock and Oakenshaw Beck since Sunday 20th October. Hydrocarbons appear to be leaching from a bunded storage tank, through the ground and out of the riverbank.
This incident has been picked up by national news. Unfortunately, the iron oxide persists in the river.
We are yet to determine the short and long term effects of this incident.

We're aware of a pollution event on the Calder between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. The incident was reported to @EnvAgencyYNE yesterday afternoon but is still present. This comes the day after @Calderdale Council's Scrutiny Review of Pollution in the River Calder.

This is a really important analysis by BBC, first of its kind and scale.
Methodology looks appropriate. Would be good for those stating it is flawed to contribute to the next iteration on the 2023 data.

Real opportunity for this analysis to happen in near real-time with the live CSO data many of the water companies now provide.
@JonahFisherBBC please give @theriverstrust a shout—I’m sure we’d be interested in collaborating.

We have now visited and mapped over 270 #weirs across the catchment with many more yet to be surveyed! This data will enable us to highlight future opportunities for river restoration.

Great work from @CCRT River Health volunteers! – at Yorkshire and The Humber, England
This weekend, we thanked our River Health Project monitors for their efforts this #Riverfly season! Our guest speaker, @josie_south, spoke to the group about her work on Crayfish in the Calder Catchment and how we can protect our native populations of White-Clawed Crayfish (1/3)

River restoration works on Black Brook are underway! A small weir and artificial walls have been removed, and banks reprofiled. During Storm Babet, the river had space to function naturally.

Our Natural Flood Management (#NFM) projects are progressing in the Upper Calder and have already been put to the test with the recent heavy rain. Leaky dams, earth bunds, and fascines are helping to slow the flow of water and reduce peak flows in the valley below.
