Watched this out of curiosity, and it’s surprisingly not terrible? Like, the art-style sucks and the premise is uninspired, but from what I saw, it’s actually sorta funny and clever despite itself. Not great, but way better than it has any right to be
I love the look of this, but it also makes me wonder if stop motion can ever get *too* clean? Like, out of all mediums, it’s by far the one that’s aesthetic lies the heaviest in it’s hand-crafted quality, but with newer Laika stuff, it almost feels like they’re trying to mimic CG
I guess you could say the same about any medium as it reaches a higher technical skill, but stop motion is literally about as hand-made as it gets. The textures, smudge marks, and sculpting give a glimpse into the human side of the craft like almost nothing can-
