Online forums are great at highlighting questions that all caregivers should ask of the MDs in charge of their loved one's care. This is a role where many caregivers feel overwhelmed and a little guidance can yield great benefits for all involved. #AlzChat

I think it is under-appreciated that a key component of dementia care is careful control of all other chronic conditions, which, if poorly controlled, will exacerbate cognitive dysfunction. #AlzChat

Is it too much to hope for a standard we can all agree to? Is this more a case where we need to ensure portability of the data so that it can be used by many? Or is that the same thing as standardization? #hcldr

great point... often overlooked in favor of "cognitive training" in the form of games...
There is much emphasis on "life long learning" and "use it or lose it" with regard to maintaining brain health. For people living with dementia, creating art is one of the best forms of cognitive exercise. #AlzChat

This has such depth. Such art helps ppl realise that people have depth too. This was realised by doctors who saw some of the artwork people living with dementia were creating about their experiences in our workshops.. made the doctors think differently... more respect. #AlzChat
I shared this before but it is apropos for this chat. Painted by an artist with advanced Alzheimer's and no longer verbally communicative. Deep emotional & creative expression beneath the surface, but isolated above ground in the verbal world. #AlzChat

Spoken language is just one vehicle for creative expression and certain neurodegenerative diseases wreak havok with verbal skills. Other creative processes often remain intact much longer. Music is a common example. #AlzChat

Such a sad truth, but many caregivers do feel guilty about not doing more, even some of those that sacrifice everything to provide care... #AlzChat
This is a little tricky but, is it possible that, in this time of so many negative emotions, long-distance caregivers are feeling a bit less guilt about not being present? After all, traveling to help is no longer permitted... #AlzChat
