Lehman Brothers turned down Leon Black after four rounds of interviews. The reason: “we don’t think you’re smart enough.” Today Lehman no longer exists. Apollo, the firm Black founded, is worth over $60 billion. Bestselling author and Founding Partner of @Pucknews @williamcohan tells the story on our latest episode. Link in the comments.

Buffett, 1999: “It’s a huge structural advantage not to have a lot of money. I think I could make you 50% a year on $1 million. No, I know I could. I guarantee that.” He was talking about the part of the market the big institutions can’t own. I spent an episode on how to invest there with @iancassel, founder of MicroCapClub and author of Stock Picker. [LINK In Comments]

The Knicks were just valued by @Sportico for $12.8 billion (up from ~$9.9 last year). $MSGS which owns the @nyknicks and the @NYRangers is valued at less than $10 billion. So essentially you are able to buy the knicks at a discounted price and the market is throwing in the rangers. Not a bad deal. Later this month, the Knicks and the Rangers will be split into 2 separately publicly traded companies, it will be interesting to see if the valuation gap narrows. @NBA_NewYork

ICYMI: The Knicks will soon stand alone as an independent, publicly-traded entity. Controversial former team president and head coach Isiah Thomas will be appointed to the board. One MSG Sports investor tells @FOS they'd rather have @BenStiller. frontofficesports.com/articl…

Great work Ben! @NBA_NewYork
“I’d rather have Ben Stiller. Or Fat Joe.” That's what one MSG Sports investor (@BoyarValue) had to say about Isiah Thomas joining the board of directors for the new entity that will own the Knicks. Full story @FOS: frontofficesports.com/articl…

Fun joining @Greenbackd and @farnamjake1 on Value After Hours. We covered AI-fear selloffs in $BKNG and $ABNB, the Knicks + Rangers ($MSGS) trading for less than the Lakers sold for, $POOL at 15x (vs. 55x at peak), and whether $MKL is the next Berkshire (no). hubs.ly/Q04yW-ys0

A woman who invested with Buffett in the partnership days and never sold ended up with life altering gains. A professional investor couldn't have done this for his clients: as a fiduciary, he would have trimmed the position as it grew. That's the advantage individuals have over the pros, says @chriswmayer. Nobody is making them sell. Full episode in the comments.
