Coring reached its total depth this afternoon at 6523 ft. #DeepDust
The Isotope Lab @eapsMIT is a participant in the Anadarko Basin coring project (#DeepDust), supported by @icdpDrilling and @NSF. Coring began on August 16 and exceeded 1 mile as of last weekend. @J_Ramez is on site right now as part of the science team. icdp-online.org/projects/by-…

I joined the Anadarko Basin coring project #DeepDust drill site last weekend. We have gone through more that 500 ft of core in the last couple of mornings with more under way.

A key point in the Bagualia #Procb paper was to have precise dates, not only of the dinosaur but for the volcanic event that caused environmental changes. Ash layers were critical but you need to have someone like @J_Ramez from in the team to deal with them!

It's a geochronologist paradise when the bone bed itself (EB) turns out to be a volcanic ash layer!

Lizard hips vs. bird hips: geological evidence suggests the known dinosaur groups diverged early on, supporting the traditional dinosaur family tree, new research from @MIT EAPS shows.
bit.ly/39G1RTW
ALT The classic dinosaur family tree has two subdivisions of early dinosaurs at its base: the Ornithischians, or bird-hipped dinosaurs, and the Saurischians, or lizard-hipped dinosaurs. In this photo-illustration, a drawing of a bird-hipped Ornithiscian is surrounded by fossils of a Pisanosaurus, a small bipedal dinosaur whose fossils have been analyzed in a new study.
