GOAT of esports himself saying this yet 99% of GMs are still chasing the next wonderkid and treating anyone over 24–25 as “too old“
Meanwhile athletes in traditional sports, F1 drivers and fighting game players competing at an elite level well into their 30s and even 40s 🥱
Faker 🇰🇷 on whether aging is the reason for declining performance and how he overcame his fear of getting older:
"I don’t think that way anymore. I think the reason I believed my performance would decline because of age was that everyone around me was saying it would."
"I kept hearing that professional gamers retire or decline once they reach their late twenties, so I think I came to believe that at the time as well."
"After that, I started reading books and kept thinking about how I could become better. Through that, I came to believe that what causes performance to decline isn’t age itself, but rather the boredom or lethargy that can come from repeating the same thing for a long time."

pro players retire at a young age because the moment they have a unimpressive split or arent the "cool new thing" anymore they get deemed as worthless and get replaced / lose opportunities to players worse than them despite maintaining & improving skill.
i retired at 21 because the people writing the narrative branded me a "veteran" (I played ONE split of LCS academy in my life. ONE fking split) and i lost opportunities to "rookies" aged 1-2 years younger than me (XD) despite the fact i gapped every1 in lane that year (except bradleyyy, shoutout to the goat) and even flame horizoned a mid (that went on to play lcs) in an official match. my bad for hitting chall at 15 and maintaining it for 6 years i guess.
aside from the players that are actually washed / can't keep up, a vast majority of players retire unwillingly as the narrative is stacked against them due to "age bias" (which is really a circular argument, age does not affect mechanics, yet ppl claim this with no proof and as such the problem fallaciously creates itself), despite the fact that in a non-physical competitive realm, amassing meta knowledge from playing at a higher level in previous seasons only serves to enhance your skill level and perspective, giving you insights that a newer player might not have.
anyways, pursuing esports as a player has to be one of the most toxic paths in life one can choose
so many things are out of your control. a lot has to go right, and luck is definitely a huge factor.

Ich mache wieder eine Gruppe für die VBL Playoffs hier bei Twitter.
Einfach eine kurze DM, wenn ihr qualifiziert seid📩
hello @EASPORTSFC give bundesliga some cards amk
Especially while not changing anything about Bruiser, Team Pressing and AI Defending which are all bigger issues anyway
Doing this *now* makes absolutely zero sense. Fundamentally changing everything the game is about in the middle of year especially with all final stages of competition coming up. But nothing new really

Now my competitive online FC 26 season is over, I’m happy to say that I’ve got play-ins so we’ve at least got our last chance secured in Saudi Arabia ✅
On the downside however, there’s a bitter taste left in my mouth after we’ve just spent the past few months playing potentially career changing tournaments in constant stutters, it’s incredibly unfair on everyone playing competitive but I’m choosing to be hopeful that next year it’ll be fixed 🤞
The final thing I want to say is that I’m incredibly grateful and appreciative of the unreal support you’ve shown me for the FC26 season, on a personal note I’ve been in a pretty rough place mentally for the past year and seeing the support whether it’s on my streams or on here, really makes it a lot easier 🫶
