Relationships Between Defectivity and Porosity in High Surface Area Porous Aromatic Frameworks (James R. Bour and co-workers) @BourLab onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
This work also offers some insight as to why the apparent ultra high surface areas are so sensitive to changes in conditions, monomer purity, etc.
Check out our latest in ACIE. Here we show that high microporosity in PAFs is associated with efficient coupling reactions that generate few defects. This insight has implications on the design of new, potentially more scalable, approaches to these remarkable materials.
The @BourLab’s latest work on relating defective structures to surface area in porous aromatic frameworks is in @angew_chem. #WSUchemistry #ResearchInDetroit

Congratulations to @James_Bour the recipient of a @NSF CAREER Award! With this prestigious award the @BourLab will be studying structure-property relationships in microporous polymers. #wsuchemistry #ResearchInDetroit
Thanks for visiting and sharing your inspiring chemistry with us!
Thanks @BourLab and @waynestatechem for hosting me yesterday! It was fun to see old friends, make some new ones, and talk about our awesome host-guest catalysis using MOFs!

Our studies of high surface area organic polymers were breaking the bank so we took a short detour to come up with a more friendly and scalable synthesis. 1/4
Our solution was to adapt classic nickel mediated electrophile coupling conditions to the unique challenges in synthesizing these polymers. We now use this approach to make these materials on >1g scales without the need for a glovebox (Schlenk line still required). 3/4
Congrats to @AnthonyPorath and the team! We hope others find this useful. Stay tuned for more on how careful attention to organometallic reactivity can improve POP syntheses and properties. 4/4
