you don't need a $5k/month marketing hire to make your first $1k. you need 30 potential customers, 10 conversations, and a product someone is actually willing to pay for. solo founder marketing 101: let's say you built an AI tool that turns sales calls into follow-up emails. here's what i'd do: 1. stop building for a week. find 30 salespeople or agency owners who deal with this problem every day. 2. talk to 10 of them. understand how they do it today, what's annoying about it, and whether it's painful enough for them to pay to fix it. 3. get 5 people to try your product. reach out personally, show them how it fits into their actual workflow, and help them get a result. no generic product pitches. 4. ask them to pay. even $50/month is a start. 20 customers gets you to $1k in monthly recurring revenue. if nobody pays, figure out why before spending another month adding features. 5. document the whole thing on X or LinkedIn. share what you're building, what customers are struggling with, what worked, and what completely failed. show the product solving an actual problem instead of posting another launch announcement. 6. use your first customer to find the next five. get permission to share their results, then talk to people with the same problem. you now have something much more useful than a list of features: proof that someone gets value from your product. 7. do more of whatever brings customers in. if personal outreach works, keep doing it. if one use case gets attention, make more content around it. you don't need to be everywhere at once. you can also take inspiration from people like @marclou , @pranvtwt , and @kalashvasaniya . pay attention to how they talk about what they're building, share their work, and get people interested without making everything feel like a marketing campaign. don't copy their posts; figure out what makes their approach work and adapt it to your own product. the mistake is thinking marketing means content calendars, paid ads, fancy funnels, and hiring people. in the beginning, marketing is figuring out who needs your product, why they need it, and what makes them willing to pay for it. you can do all of that yourself. and honestly, if you can't get a handful of people interested in your product by talking to them directly, hiring someone to post about it probably isn't going to fix the underlying problem. the first $1k won't magically appear because you followed these steps. but you'll at least know whether you're building something people want, and that's a much better place to start.
