my take for the day - release as much music as you’d like, but when you do, remember that the donkey kong country soundtrack is out there and anything anyone listens to is going to be compared to it. are you prepared to have people make that comparison

music is all i know, i often question whether it matters at all, but it matters to me, so… i’ll continue to dedicate my life to sonic exploration & freedom & try to share that with anyone who will listen. sending peace & love to you all.
My producerly advice is to make music that sounds like total shit, don’t learn how to do anything correctly. When you get bored of that, then you take the time to learn. Finally, you can use that knowledge to approximate things sounding like shit when you were innocent/ignorant.
Honest Q for this dead space where it won’t get replies:
Why do ppl hate on Tim Hecker?
Been listening since mid 00s and I’ve always loved everything about him— his steez, his anti approach, the depth with which he talks about art & his own art. Is it because he’s successful?

Did some underscore for a docu-podcast called “The Good Thief” (unbelievably true premise outlined below)
Got to play around with heisty/slinky/spaghetti-y espionage moods and loved every minute of it.
Thanks @mhattikudur and @kscope_nyc

Make your home setup your stage setup and you’ll never own a piece of gear you don’t know like the back of your hand.
If you can’t fly with it or fit it comfortably in a crowded backline, you probably won’t use it much

Makes total sense to me, and goes the same way for writers who got weirdly snappy with me just for reaching out to them in earnest 🤷🏻‍♂️

“From the Buddhist perspective, life and death are two phases of a continuum. Life does not begin at birth nor end at death. Everything in the universe—from invisible microbes in the air we breathe to great swirling galaxies—passes through these phases. Our individual lives are part of this great cosmic rhythm.
Everything in the universe, everything that happens, is part of a vast living web of interconnection. The vibrant energy we call life which flows throughout the universe has no beginning and no end. Life is a continuous, dynamic process of change.” - sokaglobal.org
Wayne, we will forever feel you as the light of your next phase now officially activates. 👊🏾❤️
Cumulatively listened to more of Shorter than any other saxophone player growing up.
No joke, weather report shifted my whole trajectory when my parents first played them for me.
VSOP continued that journey for me in high school. Thankful for the sounds he put in.
JUST IN: The saxophonist Wayne Shorter, a 12-time Grammy winner whose sound greatly influenced contemporary jazz, has died at 89.
